Default GWX navigation problems in Keil canal - help

I have just installed GWX with no extra mods other than SHIII Commander 2.7. As a new career, I defaulted to flotilla 1 based in Keil but took a VIIB.

My first patrol - I left Keil harbour at about 1.00am 2/9/39. Instead of following my guide and going around Denmark, I decided to use the Keil Canal. My navigator laid out a course keeping to the middle of the canal as shown on navigation screen.

I went ahead 1/3 speed at 8x. The canal was going to take about 2 hours (15 mins real time) so I mostly left the boat to its own devices. I'd just got to the northernmost portion of the canal (about half way) when reports came in 'taking damage' in the middle of the canal (width about 500m). When I went on the conning tower, the sub was smashing itself against a lighthouse on the portside of the canal! By the time I'd backed off, I was down to 42% integrity.

I 'escaped' and docked at the suggested port "Eckernforde" for repairs.

Second patrol was Eckernforde to Keil. As soon as it started, the sub was again smashing itself up. From the conning tower we appeared to be on dry land trying to ram a church. Result 52 dead and end of career.

New career - Flotilla 2, Wilhelmhaven (to avoid canal!) Patrol square was AM32 again 2/9/39 in VIIB.

As I came near to AM32 at night, I decided to pop into Scapa Flow, picking the southernmost eastern channel, again this appeared fairly wide on the navigation chart. Keeping to the middle, the navigator 'pinged' the depth regularly giving depths of about 10metres. Nearly ran into a blockship so stayed on the bridge. Going down the middle of a wide channel (according to navigation chart) I narrowly avoided running ashore. I had to ignore the chart and work the boat from conning tower for the whole time, eventually getting into Scapa Flow where I sunk 2 destroyers and hit a troop carrier but was unable to dodge the other destroyer who sank me.

Both careers seemed to be working off inaccurate charts.

Never had this problem when using Vanilla SHIII, tonnage or GW versions. Best so far about 16 patrols and 350,000 tons.

Any body got any ideas?
