Default Best GWX Patrol to date

This was my second patrol in my new career..started in Wilhelmshaven on November 8 1939 and was orderded to patrol grid BF15 in my TypeVIIb.

Was a pretty routing trip around the north of England when I picked up a lot of noise on the hydrophones during a late night check.Turned out to be a large convoy steaming NNW from the Irish Sea area.

I could only see a single Black Swan escort which I quickly dispatched with a shot under the keel.I surfaced and started my attack on the convoy...during which a second Black Swan showed up from the other side of the convoy sending me down.He started searching and ended up firing at least 25 starshells as rapidly as his gun could fire them into the air Here is a screenshot of that.

During his starshell firing I managed to get a stern shot which sank him.And then finished the merchant next to him in the pic.

After that I resurfaced and renewed the attack firing tubes and deck gun into the convoy. Was going well until another destroyer, type unknown as I did not bother to classify it showed up.I proceeded to dive away yet again and sit out a his search..he never found me and moved off to the NNE.You can see where he showed up in the pic of the map below by the gap between sinkings..this is where I had to wait for him to leave.

I picked up the convoy again on the hydrophones and proceeded at flank speed to catch up.After I caught up it was like shooting fish in a barrel as they were completely unprotected now.Stayed on the surface firing tube after tube and shell after shell from my deck gun until the entire convoy was wiped out.Used the torpedoes to slow em down and the deck gun to finish em off.

Now out of torpedoes and deck gun ammo I ignored my patrol grid orders and returned to base.

Just a few shots of the results of my attacks...

Map view of the convoys route and sinking locals

Patrol Log of ships sank

Final tally back at base..54,868 tons sunk...2,500 for the 2 Black Swans and 52,368 for the 15 merchants

Stuffy git

All I seem to get is the odd merchant and a bucket load of DC's on my head.

I will get that juicy moment one day,

Nice one

I have found you need to work a little harder to find the merchants. My watch are nothing but full green bar and miss ships. I spend time on the tower scanning the horizon with them. With binoculars I can usually spot them before my "expert" watchmen do. Same with the sonar, I usually work that myself as well. I heard the churning props of a convoy long before my deaf sonarman did. This is only my second patrol and I hope the boys improve with age....just like wine
