Perfectly correct - CapnScurvy is the last knight of the Round Table.
I just hope he does not "die" like Ducimus, Lurker or TorpX and others.
It would be a shame really.

So do not ask too much and leave the man his freedom.

Likewise, we have lost such large capacities as Ducimus and Lurker - they just had just fed up.

I really do not mean that bad - I just do not want the last gifted modders to be destroyed...

Thanks for the well wishes guys, but my demise is still yet to come!!! Although, sometimes I've wondered about it?

As far as the time discrepancy between 1x and Compressed......it's definitely not something we can modify. I've not seen the difference, but then, I've not looked for it either!

Although, I do know the game does a pretty good job with getting the moon right. If it's meant to be a Waxing Gibbous...…. that's what it is for that date in history. And, the moon will look appropriately correct whether it's in the Northern Hemisphere, or the Southern Hemisphere. But..... will it show up at the correct time in history, when at the correct parallel? I don't know if it will or not?? And, I don't know how to check that even if I wanted to?? Knowing what moon phase it's supposed to be in is one thing, knowing what time it was supposed to rise/fall for a given position on earth is quite another. I kind of think the sun rise/fall is similar.

Again, from the rest of us connected with Ultimate......Thank you for your continued help and kind thoughts!!!

Default Playing at 1x in SH4

I've done quite a bit of experimentation and I have verified there is a significant difference in the synchronization of the celestial sphere to the in-game clock. When playing at 1x from sunset to sunset from point A to point B, there is about a 1/4 hour difference when playing the same route and speed at 512x and/or 1028x. For example, at point B after 1x, sunset happens at 18:10; at point B after 512x sunset happens at 18:24. Over the course of several days at 1x there is a significant difference between the celestial sphere day/night cycle and the in-game clock time which can lead to being attacked by air in the middle of the night playing at 1x, while the in-game clock is indicating a day time cycle. I'm going north-south, not east-west in my testing.
Although this doesn't really apply to the FORTSU mod, it may help to explain some weird situations if a player has had the game running at 1x for long periods of time.
I have a few more experiments to perform but I am convinced there is a difference. SH4 is not meant to be played at 1x except when setting up an attack or defending from an attack.
Of course, one could just ignore the in-game clock all together and play at whatever game speed you wish.

Default Air Attack aircraft crashes

I've noticed that a few times, after successfully dodging an air attack by emergency (crash)-dive and observing the attacking aircraft in free-camera, the aircraft drops a bomb, then comes around for another pass and crashes into the sea. The aircraft is usually a single engine Zero type, although I'm not quite sure of the type or whether it is the same type every time I've observed this happening.
I have a save game for one of these type events. I saved before the attack started.

Hmmmmm. Any possibility of the plane being shot at from a friendly surface ship?? Or, are there "other" planes in the air that could have collided with the plane you witnessed??

The actions of a plane are somewhat "automatic" when it has a positive, detected enemy in it's sights. Planes are spawned by enemy detection, or by scripted mission creation during the design of the mission. In either way, other factors play an effect that actually make the plane attack (Visual detection; The plane actually has an ordinance on-board to use against the enemy {bomb/rockets/machine gun fire}?; The selected target is a "higher priority" target over another unit that's close by)? Lot's of factors that are WHY a plane does what it does.

However, having a plane just fall into the sea for no reason is surprising.

As I asked about the "other" planes in the area, planes don't seem to have the same "avoidance" capabilities as ship units. We've seen planes flying in formation (and I use that term loosely!!) are like herding a group of cat's......their all over the place and don't have a problem in hitting each other when flying close together! Is this what MAY have happened?

Also, don't forget about the Kamikaze Zero that shows up first of 1945. It will purposefully strike a surfaced target (and miss from time to time) when one is detected:

As I said a bit ago, the planes are "selective" about their targets. A higher "priority" target (like a Carrier) is selected over your sub every time. The sub is in the upper left hand corner of this image:

And, it's a good thing too!!

Another Kamikaze has joined in on the attack!!

Lucky for the sub, not so much for the Carrier.

It was a single plane. There were no surface ships. I don't think it was a kamikaze as it had dropped the bomb on me and missed and then came around for another run. I heard a boom and saw burning on the surface of the sea. I brought the sub up to radar depth and got zero hits, then surfaced and there were no other targets nearby. I have a save game.

I've seen this a couple of other times, but this one I took special care to document it. I have screenshots of the crashed plane. I wasn't quick enough to capture a screenshot of the initial attack. I'll play the game through again to see if it recurs.

... damn. Talk about an explosive end.

Though I’m not sure about the paint job on that Zeke. I think they should look more like the regular Zeroes, just with chipped green paint on top and a black cowling. All Zeroes had that paintscheme in the late war.

Did the Zero attack you at low altitude? I see this in TMO RSRDC (not in FOTRSU): it arrives at low altitude, leaves the bomb, and continues at low altitude and crash in the distance. In FOTRSU I received the nice gift of this nasty Zekes and always they retake the climb.

Regards.

Default Another crashing plane incidence FotrsU .71

Jan ‘45, patrol area Abuse(?) diving to avoid 3 escorts looking for me after sinking one of their convoy ships. While watching all this with free camera a Zero or Zeke, definitely single engine, dives from high altitude and drops a bomb in the vicinity of where I had released decoys. The plane climbs briefly, few hundred feet, then starts tumbling nose over tail, falls to ocean, large colorful explosion.

I played through my save game. This time I carefully watched the approach and attack of the aircraft. I have screenshots but when I upload them they always come out way too tiny. How do you all get your screenshots large enough in your posts so you can see them? I was mistaken in my first post about the plane coming around for another run. It crashes almost immediately.

The plane started a high altitude attack, then dove, dropped the bomb, started to climb and immediately started to tumble, and I mean tumble, pitch, roll and yaw out of control. The plane then nosed over and dove directly into the sea.
