Default Without map updates

I recently upgradet to OLC GUI Special mod and in my first encounter I got completely lost - luckily the weather was good enough to achieve a sinking with my cannon. Anyway, even if I disable GUI Special, I have a CTD when I try to make a screenshot, so I have to use MoBo "manually", being my own navigator...
Could you please give me some tips for how to deal without map updates? How can I use MoBo as a DRT (for example, as shown in Lurker's tutorial) while I have to find my position myself? Or should I definitively stick to a moboard approach?

Really? You mean if you use the OLC GUI and press the PrtScr button (or Alt-PrtScr) it CTD's? If that's the case I'll probably have to avoid that mod.

Lurker did do a radar plotting tutorial, but that's not a DRT example. That's a relative motion plotting example. ...and yes, you could use MoBo to track relative motion if you wanted to.

Not sure exactly where to start for such an example. What is it you're trying to do?

I don't know if CTDs are due to OLC GUI or to my system, I'd say the latter... Anyway, I was wondering how to use MoBo in the "realistic map updates" mode, when I know my position only approximatively since in a zoomed-in view ownskip and contacts aren't marked any more. It's all right when I actually have a contact spotted or heard so I can stick with moboard approach and all I draw is relative, but I'm a little embarassed with intercepting ships reported by radio when their position is as uncertain as mine.
I suppose I should keep a track of my own position on MoBo to do it properly?

Strange; I wonder what your system is doing that would cause that. I've been able to successfully ScrPrt and tab-out of SH3 and SH4 under XP pro and now Vista64 Pro.

But anyway...

MoBo is not really designed to be a DRT for the entire ocean(s) or at least not version 1.1. You would need to track your position by marking it with the pencil on the nav map in the game.

For your situation, MoBo could be used as a maneuvering board station for solving relative motion problems and tracking/intercepting contacts within sensor range or via radio contact data.

As a moboard station, your subs position is always at the center... there's no guesswork involved. You're tracking the relative motion of the target to determine true course and speed. Once you have that information, you can plot your attack strategy.
