Default How to Add ship MOds to DC?

I found three ship mods to add to DC, one for improved BB's and two for DD's but am not sure of the proper technique. The .JRF files are straightforward replacements I am guessing, but there is a GenGRD.tga file that I do not see in the files. There are a bunch of other .tga's but no Gen. Will this mess things up to just drop it into the model folder? I was going to use JSGME but wanted to be sure about the overall process first. thanks for any help on this.

And can anyone tell me what program creates the .JRF format so if i want to add some more ships and model them what to use? thanks for info on that too.

You can drop any number of files into the JRF folder. They don't interfer with each other. Only problem is if you overwrite an existing file.

The JRF file was DC/SH2's biggest pain. It requires two things

1. Mutigen Creator software ( prohibitively expensive for hobbyists). This creates an OpenFlight model file from more conventional geometry. It allows you to import 3DS files for example.

2. The custom JRF "creator". This converts the OpenFlight file into the JRF.

I have Multigen Creator 3.0

What about the custom JRF Creator? is that proprietary for the developers for this sim? Or can we buy a copy somewhere?

I loaded up all the ships i found in both SH II and DC but had a problem with a Graf Spee add on i think, it copied over some other files and now when i try to look at it in the model viewer the game crashes. I think maybe it was not enabled for the model viewer.

the game runs fine otherwise.... but i would love to try to do a Graf Spee campaign maybe even with the Graf playable

Graf Spee would be an excellent idea for a campaign.

Perhaps you could contact the creator of the Graf Spee model that was added to SH3 and ask permission to import it into DC.

One word of warning. You would need to reduce poly number to under 20K and all the texture plates need to be squared. There are some model guidelines on my Iron Seas site.

yep, i saw those guidelines, I was a bit sad to see the limitations but .... we are lucky to have this sim to work with at all ys, if there is a chance to bring in a good Graf Spee, the author is the first stop. I will dig in the read me as soon as i get my install sorted out as i think i actually loaded up two Grafs and they may be fightint each other in the file sets.
