Overjoyed doesn't begin to cover it. 2 players out and the Black Cats squeaked out a win by the skin of their fangs.

Now lets hope they can break the fangs of the Australain Taipans!

Hell, the Nutcrunchers were not mentioned. Just as well, the team is just awful.

NUTCRUNCHERS WIN
...and elsewhere, Dragons do too.

Week Seven in the 2011 Subsim Fantasy Football, and we are halfway to the playoffs. Three teams look to be the real deal in the run to for the Torpedo Bowl, but the scramble for that fourth spot in the Championship Series is a wild race with the entire league still in contention. And it all came down to Monday Night with no less than three cliff hangers, the most important being the two teams at the bottom of the league.

We'll get to this weeks games after we step away for this important message.

NOMINATE SUBSIM FFL REPORTS FOR THIS YEARS "BEST OF SUBSIM".

It's week 7, and with the trade deadline looming, Mr Chris had to to something to stop the rot of the 1-5 Helmand Nighthawks.

Really? How's that season looking today after Plexico scored three touchdowns for 23.25 points this week?
The Nighthawks almost needed a change of underwear as their away trade scored, while they struggled to put up 70 points against the Nutcrunchers. The game became a borefest until the last minute of Monday night when Anquan Boldin finally held on to a TD and the result of the game rested on the boot of Billy Cundiff. After missing a 50 yard plus earlier in the game, Cundiff kicked the extra point and the Nutcrunchers get out of the vice and advance to 1-6 with a .08 point win over the Nighthawks. Final Score Nutcrunchers 73.09 Nighthawks 73.01.

At the top of the league, having started with a three game lead on the rest of the division, Coach Rick and the Dragons set off on the cross country away leg that will decide their immaculate season. Despite hate mail from the 72 Dolphins wishing them ill, the Dragons teeter on the cusp of the perfect season. Matched up this week against the 1-5 Reapers, the Dragons were able to dispose of their seventh victim...I mean opponent, as they steamrolled their way to a 112 - 70 victory.

After the game, Coach Rick addressed the press and said "We circled this date at the beginning of the season. We came to play, and it was everything we thought it would be. We played it hard and in the end, we're just to come away with the win and look forward to next weeks game."

Behind the Dragons are two teams in the Surface Skimmers Division fighting it out for the #2 position. The first team, Coach Casey's Guns Of Hochuli, having already suffered a defeat to be 5-1, and were in trouble from the beginning of the week. Against the Delaware Destroyers, the game had six players on byes between the two teams (Maybe the could have pooled to the game together on the same bus?) Coming from way behind the Gunners needed every ounce of scoring on Sunday from their TE Jimmy Graham (Saints) to get their muzzle out in front. Final score, another close one, Guns of Hochuli 57.48 defeat Delaware Destroyers 57.22, a victory of less than 5 rushing yards.

Wow. Despite what I said last week, is this the lowest total winning score ever?

Earlier in the week there was some strong smack talking going on from the Black Cats against the Australian Taipans. At 5-1 the Taipans started the game 5 point underdogs to the 3-3 Black Cats. Apparently, in his shuffle to get the right team Coach Pioneer started his kicker on the other side of the field against his defense. Having realized the "rookie error" the Taipans ground and pound the ball with Arian Foster for a monstrous individual score of 44 points. Taipans advance to 6-1 with a half game lead over the Gunners, by defeating the Black Cats 124 - 82.

How about them Doggies? The Wild Boston Terrier have quietly put together a three game winning streak, this week handing the BP Badasses their fourth consecutive loss. While McBee has Aaron Rodgers at the helm, his potential can make up for the negative scoring of Ryan Torain, as the Terriers defeat the Badasses 102-74.

The thriller this week were the Ghost Monkeys hosting Every Given Sunday. At 4-2 the Monkeys have outscored everyone in the league. Conversely, EGS has been on hot streak of three straight wins and after a shaky start to the season, plane delays and starting the wrong team. EGS have slowly moved back to put themselves in contention as a legitimate playoff hopeful. With the Ravens defense on the field most of the game ('cause the offense were offensive) Every Given Sunday got 4 sacks to move them ahead an eventually win 88.00 - 84.63.

So, halfway through the season here's where we stand.

The Dragon are unbeaten at 7-0 as they hold a three game lead in the Sub Simmers division. They could potentially lock up a play off appearance with just two more wins. Behind them, a three way tie exists between the Wild Boston Doggies, Ghost Monkeys and Every Given Sunday. Two games back at 2-5 the BP Badasses sit, and at the bottom of the division are the Reapers at 1-6.

Over in the Surface Skimmers division, the 6-1 Taipans only loss came at the hands of the Dragons. A half game back the Guns of Hochuli look like the only team who can take the Dragons, but, in a Merino/Elway replay, the Gunners will only meet the Dragons if both teams make the play offs. Three games behind them the Destroyers and Black Cats both lost dropping them to 3-4, while the Nutcrunchers leapfrog Helmand Nighthawks to be a half game ahead at 2-5. Amazingly, both the Nutcrunchers and the Nighthawks can still make the Championship Finals if they win all their games from here on out.

Each week, the Associated Subsim Writers (ASW) will nominated their Most Valuable Torpedo (MVT) of the week, the single player who proved decisive in their teams performance.

The decision of the Associated Subsim Writers changed as the complexion of the last game came to a head. For the effort of 1 sack, 1 interception, 2 fumble recoveries and one defensive touchdown, the Associated Subsim Writers are pleased to present the Saints Defense of the Nutcrunchers for their first win, with the Week Seven MVT.

How Arian Foster and his 44.xx points don't get MVT, is beyond me. The guy was a beast this week. Unreal!

I was thinking that the 40 point monster of a game that Drew Brees put up to bring EGS back from a 50 point deficit would have been the MVT.

After thinking about it - it makes sense though. Ultimately the MVT is not necessarily who contributed "more" - but who unexpectedly contributed in a major fashionto get the win. Nutcrunchers needed something like that - and the Saints D delivered.

DRAGONS FAIL
Cellar Dwellers Upset the League

Week Eight in the 2011 Subsim Fantasy Football, and what happened this week? Three out of the top four teams failed to score easy wins, falling to the bottom teams. And through it all, the 72 Dolphins and Every Given Sunday are smiling at the shakeup from this week.

We'll get to this weeks games after we step away for this important message.

NOMINATE SUBSIM FFL REPORTS FOR THIS YEARS "BEST OF SUBSIM".

Week Eight and something happenned on the way to the Torpedo Bowl, the underdogs got up, beat up on the league leaders and suddenly, both divisions are wide open and no one has secured a play off position.

The biggest shock of the week, the 7-0 Dragons were looking to take care of business in what should have been an easy win over the 2-5 BP Badasses. Should have been, except no one told the Badasses that. The Badasses Lion defense set the tone for the game coming out and spanking the Dragons Titan defense, but it was Michael Vick and late on Monday night, the lack luster effort of Ryan Matthew which finally lifted the Badasses to the biggest, and most unexpected win of the season. Dragon suffer their first loss of the season, and the Badasses get sent a complimentary bottle of champagne by 72 Dolphins, the only teams to have a perfect season.

The second shock, the high scoring Guns of Hochuli in the Surface Skimmers division were up against the below .500% Nutcruchers. The Gunners, although not leading the division, have been the key team to find their stride this year. But this week, they couldn't hold down the Nutcrunchers, even against the boot of the long range field goal kicker from the Gunners of Nick Novak. Nutcrunchers get their second win in a row dropping a divisional rival, squeaking home 101 - 94.

The biggest blow out of the week was between a pair of 3-4 teams, the Black Cats hosting the Delaware Destroyers . Scrapping over what may the #8 spot in the play offs, the Cats get back to 4-4 with a smackdown of the Destroyers 123 - 63.

The Wild Boston Terriers, the second promising team to come out of the Sub Simmers division, had that dream smashed this weekend when they came up against divisional rivals Every Given Sunday. A lack of scoring by the Terrier wide receiver corp of Pierre Garson, Marques Colston and Michael Jenkins left the door open for EGS. Even though their third wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker failed to score a single point, it was the boot of Rob Bironas and two 50+ field goals which lifted them to an unexpected victory. With the collapse of the balance of the division, EGS leapfrog to the #2 position and just two games back from the Dragons.

After the game, Coach Mich W was smiling as he spoke to the press. "We circled this date at the beginning of the season. We came to play, and it was everything we thought it would be. We played it hard and in the end, we're just to come away with the win and look forward to next weeks game."

At 4-3 you would have expected the high scoring Ghost Monkeys to take care of business against the 1-6 Reapers, but Coach Pits QB of Eli Manning with 349 yards and 23 points had other ideas. Ghost Monkeys RB LeSean McCoy can rush for 2 TD's and 185 yards, but the Monkeys needed the other RB Jackie Battle to come through. The Reapers had it early, but the Ghost Monkeys "tricked" them on Halloween night to steal a win with a late touchdown. Monkeys move closer to the Dragons advancing to 5-3.

The only team in the top four to take a win, and they were lucky to do with all the turn overs that Phillip Rivers created, were the Australian Taipans. Matched up against the 1-6 Helmand Nighthawks, the Taipans were barely able to stay in front all weekend, but they march out to a one game divisional lead, winning 88 - 76.

So, after week eight, the Surface Skimmers division is easier to dissect. The Taipans, 7-1 but 6-0 in the division, hold a one game lead over the Gunners, who are two ahead of the emerging Black Cats.

In the Surface Skimmers, the loss by the Dragons opens up the division. Dragons lead 7-1, with two games back the Ghost Monkeys and Every Given Sunday. A further game back at 4-4 are the Wild Boston Terriers, and then another game to the storming Badasses. This division is wide open, and realistically, every one of those teams could make the playoffs.

Each week, the Associated Subsim Writers (ASW) will nominated their Most Valuable Torpedo (MVT) of the week, the single player who proved decisive in their teams performance.

For the effort of 7 sacks, 1 interception, 2 fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdown, the Associated Subsim Writers are pleased to present the Lions Defense of the BP Badasses with the Week Eight MVT.

Heck - I heard someone say playoffs.....

Playoffs? I just barely made .500, though I will get above that next weekend. Still - playoffs are a long way away - not time wise, but talent wise I think.

It may just be a 1 and done if I make it.
