Default Driving in shallow water

As the Kilo does not have a Depth under keel sounding reading like that of the Akula, how does one navigate around shallow water region without running into the ground?

Amazing how the real world Kilo folks managed to do those shallow water mission runs.

Similarly, any way to detect if there is any underwater cliff looming ahead, even for the Akula or any other sub?

For all submarines under keel depth is displayed on digital bar (right bottom part of screen)

Yes I know that. But in the real Kilo sub, is there a way to know the depth below the keel?

I would not presume that the Dangerous Waters control panel interface captures all of the Kilo's abilities. I am quite certain they would have a way to measure depth under the keel.

To see a cliff ahead, you'd have to use high frequency active sonar.

Having been on the Orzel a Polish Kilo they do have depth gauges that measure water depth under keel, and like FPSCHAZLEY said its done by HF Sonar

I think the OP is also missing something more obvious.

Your Nav Map is there for several reasons. One of them is so you can drive the boat without running aground. Use the map to figure out where you want to go, always pay attention to the DEPTH display in the lower left corner.
The Nav Map is lot more than an over-head tactical display.
