Default New sub novel: Rise to Victory

I just began reading this book. So far, I like it a lot:

"An American attack submarine heads for Indonesia to evacuate U.S. citizens said to be at risk due to a violent rebellion. But the Providence's crew finds there's more to this mission than meets the eye...."

I just finished reading this book. ...Couldn't put it down, I recommend it highly!

The author is a former nuke submariner, and it shows. He tells a good story, and the character development and inter-personal conflicts (almost) outshine the exciting combat action.

I can't wait to get this one. Too bad I don't have any $.

R. Cameron Cooke is the man to watch out for in the Submarine Novel field.

Read it, nice job. I'm tired of reading sub novels where the only people ever described are the Eng, the Captain, and the sonar guy (who's inevitably the best in the fleet).

Couldn't agree more! Just finished it myself and it is indeed a "page turner!" Wonder if we will ever hear the "rest of the story?"

Was just at Chapters and picked up both of his novels on Friday, finished "Pride Runs Deep" this morning and moving on to "Rise to Victory" tonight.

Very satisfied with his first book, I'm hoping that he revisits the WW2 era again.

Just finished both books. Had to order Pride Runs Deep after reading Rise to Victory. Both great books! It makes me hungry for more books on the Pacific Sub fleet.

Ok, finished Pride Runs Deep, pretty good novel. Characters were believeable and interesting, dialogue was serviceable, plot was exceptional. Cooke is one to watch.

Just finished it too. I think though the rescue of the stranded away team was too much like the rescue of that lieutenant and his group from Icland in Red Storm Rising. Other than that, It was great book.

I just finished this book as well. I have to say that although the story was "bareable" the number and magnitude of bad decisions was just too much...

... sending a sub for a job that should have been done with a destroyer and seal team... as well as the bad decisions of the captain (some of them just plain dumb) were pretty distracting.

I'ld describe the book as too "hollywood". With a plot more like something in a hollywood movie than truly believable plot. 2.5 out 5 stars.
