Default Old Player - Thinking of Putting Out to Sea Again in SH5 - A Good Idea?

Hello there everyone.

It's been several years since I last played the game. How is SH5 these days?

Any significant mod news of late? What mod packages are people using now?

Would you say now is a good time to come back?

Thanks a lot,

Steve

Welcome back! Yes now is a very good time to get back into it. TWOS supermod is regularly updated, and can be found at the top of the SH5 mods forum.

If you are interested in manual celestial navigation, it now functions as expected. All necessary documentation for this is included in the game since v 2.2.24.

Best regards,
Alpheratz

I have the same question, I am used to sobers mod, works fine for me. Should I remove it and use TWOS or is sobers megamod still ok?

Thx.

You can't use both at the same time, that's for sure.

I'd go with TWoS, for one simple reason: it has several years worth of continuous updates, bugfixing and adding new content since sober's modlist last update. I'm following TWoS development since 2019 when I started playing SH5 and even in these few years amount of new content and fixes is huge - all this in a very stable package.

It's really difficult not to like The Wolves of Steel megamod. TWoS is very well constructed. Sure, a few quirks but hardly noticeable compared to all the refinement. The Real Navigation mod puts this megamod in a class all it's own.

Get The Wolves of Steel and you have the most immersive single player Uboat/Submarine experience in my opinion. Sh3 with any of the major mega mods is also a good choice, but honestly I have a hard time stepping back from SH5 with TWOS. As long as you can live with type VII only, which is a compromise for sure, but then that even still factors in to my opinion that... It's the best overall experience, and by far most immersive.
