Default "Phantom" Submarine movie

I just found this:
http://www.firstshowing.net/2012/wat...rris-duchovny/

Looks interesting enough. Anybody know anything about it?

Looks interesting. What sub is that? (If its an actual submarine and not fictional.)
Also, i might have missed something but are they playing as Russians? And what era is this taking place in... Cold war?

The sub in the trailer was a Foxtrot but based on the trailer I'm guessing this is meant to be the story of the Golf class K-129.

Looking forward to this, Ed Harris is a great actor. Loved him in Apollo 13 and Enemy at the Gates.

four words that will make any movie infinitely more interesting...

"Based on true events"

looks neat though, will probably check it out!

I was all ready to complain about American movies with American actors portraying other etc and why can't they blah blah blah...

Then I read TLAM's link and the story of the CIA and covert ops in the Cold War, and I have to agree - this looks pretty cool!

[edit] And I just read McBee's original link, and I'm back to saying why can't they use actors from the correct country? It worked in The Longest Day and Tora! Tora! Tora!, and it worked for Eastwood in Letters From Iwo Jima. Well, we'll see.

[edit 2] I just watched the trailer, and it doesn't say "Based on true events", it says "Inspired by true events", which invariably makes me cringe. Now that I've seent the trailer I'm starting to look forward to avoiding this.

It's blu-ray ... I know cause I just got one ... well it'll be here tomorrow at least.

Ed Harris ... I like him too.

Someone do a review: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000438/bio

I thought he would make a great Carrol Shelby telling his story in hindsight that is. Just noticed he is only 62 ... still young/not too old

I wish somebody would make "October Fury" into a movie. When I saw the Foxtrots in this movie "Phantom", I was hoping they did. Sadly, it's not that story.

There are some good Russian directors out there, that could do a good job. I have minimal faith in Hollywood not ruining the story. (talking about October Fury)

I saw David Duchovny discuss this on a talk show. He said the choice to just speak English was because if everyone tried to speak English with Russian accents every accent would sound different which would be ridiculous. Russian speaking actors with subtitles was ruled out because it was feared it wouldn't sell well.

It is indeed set in 1968 and based on the K-129 incident, but because no one really knows what happened aboard that boat the movie is pure speculation.

I'll watch it, mainly cause it's a sub movie, and I also like Ed Harris.

I just finished watching this one. I wouldn't say it's bad, but it's also not that great, accuracy wise. Enjoyable tho. Scratched that itch for a new submarine movie to watch at the very least.
Inspired by true events tho, in this case, means "fictionalized and suspensefully dramatized to make MOAR MONIES" .. still fun tho.
