Default Tank Turret on Deck

Yay Its Jan 1945, I got an upgrade.
Dual 5 inch deck guns.
Boo, something is borked.
While its somewhat cool to see a deck gun look like a tank turret, my OCD went off the charts.
I spent an hour combining nodes from various files from Real Fleet Boat to attempt a fix but RFB has way too many intertwined parameters and I screwed something up. So I went back to my backup to start all over.

I have looked through the deck_gun_5_25.dat and sim files but I dont think the parameter for where the deck gun sits is in there.
Its probably an anchor point in nss_balao.dat but I just dont see it.

Any help in tracking down where I can move the X axis is appreciated.

The gun mounts are in the correct spots, it's the conning tower that's out of place. Z01 is the node for the conning tower in the dat file.

Default Nailed It

It wasnt the conning tower. Thats in the right spot visually althought the screenshot is a bit skewed due to angle I took it in.
The mount point in the NSS_Balao.dat file was really off.
For those folks that want to know ...
Node - slot_M02_NSS_Balao

Move the Z parameter back or forth till you like the spot.
I moved both my guns a bit.

In addition I added two real crewmember spots to the UPC and set them as human not AI, so the gun is staffed when battlestations are called.

Looks good, works well, bring on the destroyers.

The angle you took the screen shot isn't that extreme. Your conning tower IS in the wrong location. There are several visual cues that indicate that such as: the limber hole pattern in relation to the CT is the best indicator, there's also the lifelines if you look closely at their layout as well. If it's not the Z01 node in the balao.dat then it's the dat for the conning tower itself. This SS shows correct location.

Default Better?

Yeah it was the conning tower dat file that was a bit screwy.

So now that I have the positions of the guns and conning tower right I have a question about the center of the turrets.

I noticed when looking on the overhead view of the sub that both 5" guns are somewhat off center. Not much.

Looking at the sub, bow side facing up, the rear facing gun is left of center and the fore facing gun is right of center.

Was this a typical setup? Of should I jump back into the dat and tweak the guns accordingly.

If I had to put a perspective on both, the amount is about the width of the muzzle. If I had to explain it as correct I would say it was to prevent nailing the antenna on a straight shot but I dont know, and I cant find any overhead pictures of wwii subs to compare.

Its not an issue otherwise, just cosmetic, if I look straight down.

Disregard.
I used google earth and zoomed into the USS Pompanito from overhead in San Fran and sure enough the fore gun is off center.

Problem solved.
