Default Promoting officers how to

When I get promotions in this game from patrols I can promote the enlisted men or the NCOs but for some reason cannot promote officers.

How can officers be promoted? They don't seem to get experience either like the NCOs and Enlisted men.

I'm on Patrol 4 now, most enlisted men & NCOs close to max or at max experience but officers have 0.

Is the reason that they are just one rank lower than my own? (I'm currently Oberleutnant Zur See and they are Leutnant's)

Thank you in advance ☺️

Karl,
welcome to subsim.

if your officer cadre is at the O3 level, you cannot promote them to a higher rank as it is limited by SH4. in the game, O3 is designated as rank level 12. junior officers are 10 & 11, senior chiefs are level 8 & 9, cheifs are 7 and so on down the chain of command. by the way, CPO level 8 & 9 did not exist during WWII. their existence in the game is due to Ubi.

the game will not allow crew ranks higher than 12. so if you want to promote, trade-out your L12's for L10's and go out on a mission to see their experience rise to promotable level.
good luck!

Seems kinda bad that this isn't fixed for the German campaign since there were many Oberleutants as LIs and IWOs on board, thank you for the answer

pardon my ignorance, what are LI's and IWO's, please.

IWO is probably some kind of warrant officer, no?

IWO = 1st watch officer, basically the second in command after the commander, usual ranks of them were Leutnant zur see and Oberleutnant zur see.

LI = Chief engineer

LIs or Chief Engineers were in charge of the ships engines and it's operational state etc, they were usually the second highest ranking officer on board behind the commander. Usually they were Oberleutnants or Leutnants, but some acting LIs had the same rank as the commander and sometimes even higher ranks. Having LIs with the rank of Kapitänleutnant was possible, and Gerd Suhren (brother of Reinhard) was a Korvettenkapitän and was a Knights Cross recipient.
