Pictures of the USS Requin

I visited the USS Requin the other day for the first time in years and decided to take a bunch of pictures. For those that don't know, the USS Requin was a Tench class sub that never really saw duty in WWII. It was due for a patrol, but WWII ended before it ever got a chance. There is an interesting Wikipedia page on the Requin and I highly suggest reading it. It was later converted to a radar picket and was given the streamlined conning tower you see today. The ship is really not in any sort of sea shape anymore and is pretty much a floating museum. There are better preserved subs out there, but this one is in my hometown and it was pretty neat to go visit the old girl again. The control room alone is worth the trip. Its really too bad you can't get into the conning tower. Maybe one day, I can convince someone to let me climb up and take some shots......

Anyways there were too many pictures to post to the forum, so please visit my flickr photostream. Here is a direct link to the set:

Hopefully some of you will enjoy these.

Those are nice shots. I would love to have a few items off this boat so I can put them on the Torsk

Thanks for checking out the shots. On that note. I just uploaded a bunch of b-17 shots too if anyone is interested.

Wasn't this the sub used for the surface shots in the film 'Ice Station Zebra'?

Very cool film.
