Hello All,

I've been a bit of a fan of Jane's Combat Sims. I have several titles. At one time in the mid 2000's, I was going to the used game stores and collecting missing titles.

I haven't played my fav in a while (Fleet command) and I got a bit annoyed with the game set up (who the heck parks war ships in the middle of trouble?)

Also, the fact that the ships seem to take a huge barrage of missiles and ready attacks but not be very good at defending yourself. Kinda put me off a bit.

I remember some online group making some mods, and I know I downloaded all the doctrines and backed them up on a disk somewhere (warships 2.1??) does that sound familiar?

Well, last night I fired up my old computer, (AMD XP 3200+ Barton core, 400 FSB, MSI MB) and started playing it.

Then getting frustrated with how badly I get my butt handed to me, I went looking again for some online updates, upgrades, or just anything.

I found your site and decided to join just to see what I can do with this game.

Thanks all,

I've been playing around with the editor, and applied some of the How-to's (Sticky post: Fleet Command How-to's) and just testing some of my changes.

Just having some fun with it.

Big thanks to the author of that editor.

One issue I was having, is how do you 'delete' and then re-save?

When I read this under How to's:

Go down the records and till you come to 051:Nimitz CVN and double click on it. Now where it say ( No. of Aircraft carried ) all you need to do is change the number from 12 to 20 or whatever you want.

Next click Save Record.

Next click the X at the top on the right hand side of the screen and again on the Fleet Command Database Editor screen then click yes to save.

You may need to replace the Nimitz CVN in the games mission editor, ( i.e. delete the current one and place a new one) so that you get the new
amount of F-14 Tomcats.

I'm not sure I quite get that.

just as an update to this thread, I have managed to install the original 'Jane's Fleet Command' on my new laptop. It's an Asus Rog Strix running a 9750 cpu, 16 gigs of ram, etc. running windows 10.

I installed the game as normal, then set the compatibility mode for windows 95/98, (right-click on desktop icon, go to properties, click on compatibility tab, then 'check-box' of "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and then click the drop-down box, and select 'windows 95/98'.

then installed the update - 1.38. That's it.

I did Not use the 'XP' installer.

Seems to run fine, and play fine, but the intro's are a bit choppy (skip with enter).

Update: So far, I've played two missions, and it seems to work good. clicking to planes, telling them to engage, ships, etc. going back and forth thru the tactical view, to viewing planes, (old F2, and F3) seem to work, and the game plays fine - So far.

on my original pc that I still have running, I had installed all the other mods. Ships 2.6?? and the planes one (last one) long ago. Then I got the editor, and made some changes of my own. Like slightly better load-outs. At least I can keep up with the onslaught of missiles that are coming at me.

I booted up my old pc, copied all the files from that, and the pasted all the doctrine files over, and all my original saved games, and completed missions. I just didn't touch the files in the main folder like the FC.exe one, and a few others that are the main game.
Seems to work fine. planes are better again, and the ships respond good.
