That's a lot more than I expected. Very cool stuff.

The 8-9 knots if full throttle and NOT very economic...best speed is around 5 knots.

Remember....fuel economy in this day and age is important

And this is with the normally aspirated engines right? I'm also curious what the electric motor speeds are. That's why I was surprised, I was expecting like 3 kts

Sorry to drag up this old post, but I just found out about this. Have there been any new developments? How sweet would it be to replace the diesel engines and fuel system with a hydrogen/oxygen fuel cell system? That way the sub could be run on the electric motors all the time. The deck could even be lined with solar cells for surface cruising. If they have a spare hull lying around, I'd be awfully interested in tinkering with it!

Don't know if there will be much more development on UC-3, as the team is currently working on a privately-funded space program.

Good grief, nothing like pushing yourself a bit, eh? Building submarines for a laugh, and then moving on to your own space program! We should stay tuned and see what they end up on next.
