Default Stupid question butttt

Hi, I'm fairly new to SH3 and I started a new career in '39. It seems I barely find any merchants in the assigned patrol area. My question is, do more ships spawn in as you progress in career?

Are you playing vanilla, that is without any mods?

It's normal not be swarmed by targets, especially if your assigned patrol area isn't right in front of an enemy port or a busy convoy route. Historically convoys only really picked up a few weeks into the war, so I wouldn't worry too much if realism is your thing.

If you just want to sink targets left and right check the convoy map and move to a suitable square, or better yet, in front of a british / french port.

Even a few years into the war you may easily have to hunt for targets for a few days in a more or less realistic campaign.

F5 takes you to the navigation map. You should be able to pull down or from the side a map. In my game they are called "Atlantic", "Mediterranean", etc.

You can go to areas that are more likely to have enemy shipping, and it will help to find targets. But always remember you need to be submerging periodically and listening. You will detect them from a lot further away submerged than you will on the surface.

Especially with the storms and poor visual conditions you often have in the North Atlantic.
