Default Crew composition

Anyone know the general crew rank composition of a u-boat crew ? I.e., after a few promotions it seems like a crew can have to many of any certain rank.

I'd like to keep the rank ratios close to historical as much as possible via dismissals, etc. but am not sure of how many of the different ranks and subranks were typical in a boat.

I realize the various mods crew makeups aren't completely accurate anyway.

That's a good question. I let SH3 Commander do crew transfers, but I also sometimes dismiss crewmen based on their high experience and rank. I figure I am being philanthropical to BdU by training men and then releasing them so they can form a cadre for a new boat.

Exactly what I do too. I figure there must have been some kind of structure such as x amount of this rank, y amount of that rank, etc. per boat.

In my current profile, I have the VIIC/41 U230, amassing enough tonnage and renown/experience, that we have 26 sailors/matrosen with 4 of them as chief. We have 14 petty officers with 2 as chief, and 1 as junior. We have 5 officers as the command crew, with the Li as oberleutnant, and the rest as leutnant zS. Although I have installed the turm 4 flak boat option, I have not made much use of it, but as a result of the equipment change, I now have no real use for my deck gun trained PO.
I thought I'd keep him around for old-times but I'll probably toss him when we get back to base, and replace with a proper AA gunner.

Default Player Rank

A slightly different question: Is Oberleutnant the highest rank a Player can reach or does a player get also promoted to Kapitänleutnant etc.?

I have attained kapitanleutnant and then korvettenkapitan, before either getting retired by SH3 Commander or killed in action.

Crew composition is something like this for type VII...
Watch crew: two officers, two senior nco's, two junior nco's and six ratings divided into three watches.
Radio crew: two junior nco's and two ratings
Torpedo crew: one junior nco and three ratings.
Command room crew: two junior nco's and two ratings
Engineering crew: one officer, two senior nco's, four junior nco's and 8 ratings
+ captain and Cook
=41 steel tube trapped souls...

Search one u boat which didn't return from it's first patrol. This gives you composition and ranks of the crew.
