Perforated armour is old news. The Leopard 1 used perforated plates in its applique armour, the Leopard 2 has always used perforated plates for it's main component of armour arrays.
The second part they added as an afterthought - if it is being accurately reported is much more exciting. Stainless steel, retaining ductile properties of a steel armour while attaining hardness levels similar to ceramics... Now that is new. |
