Default Editing/changing Hsie's messages

Just changing them in the *_menu.txt files doesn't do anything. Are they tied into his .exe edits ?

Are you going to Data/Menu/en_menu.txt or de_menu.txt ?

I have edited that file numerous times and the changes show right up.

May I ask what you are trying to edit?

Good hunting,

Yep, going to en_menu.txt in my case. Strange, they stay the same in the game when I try them, including after restarting the game and re-installing any mods that affect the file with the editing done to them.
The last mod I install via JSGME that has the file is Hitman's optics, so I've tried editing the file in that mod.

I just want to change the wording on some of the messages to something I prefer is all.

Okay.

I have changed some of those too, i.e. :

4814=Fog is dissipating.
4815=Oxygen: %02.0f Percent.
4816=Oxygen back to normal: 21 Percent.
4817=Oxygen too low. Using oxygen supply.
4818=Fog setting in.

I think the original message was something like "Fog appearing" and "Fog disappearing". Just made a bunch of changes and all showed up right away.

Good hunting,
FUBAR295

Thanks Anvar, yes I am using Sh3 Commander. I'll try changing that file.

Yeah Fubar, that fog message is one I want to change too.

Forgot about SH3Cmdr being the possible culprit.

Any changes I made in Data/Menu en.menu file showed up immediately. Interesting thing is that most of the SH3 Commander/Cfg/Static settings.cfg is in German which does not really show up in game.

John Pancoast

Well, I guess I got you going in some direction. Anyway, you should be able to customize a lot of different labeling, phrasing and the like for your own tastes. I altered the format on how the radio messages appear in game like this :

4190=Radio Signal Incoming |
4191=Radio Signal Received |
4192=From : %s|To : %s|%s
4193=BdU
4194=Radio Contact Report |
4195=Contact Report ||%s %s |%s |Course : %s |Speed : %d kts!
4196=Contact report received. Good work!
4197=Acknowledged.
4198=Keep up the good work!
4199=Return to base!

Just minor stuff but suits me.

Good hunting,

Another Commander question. Does it also change the "AI Detection", etc. values ?
I.e., stock NYGM "Lost Contact Time" in that section of the sim.cfg files is 40.
Mine keeps changing; yestertday it was 27, now it's 22. Nothing I've done.

I have to do some digging around in Commander I think, see what exactly it changes each time it's started up.............although come to think of it, I haven't exited the game/restarted Commander in a few days.

Just been pausing the game.

John,

Do a save and quit game. On restart, all the changes you made should be there.

It took me several attempts but got things to my liking. The fog message and the labeling for the Electric Motors (was labeled as Electric Engine) and several wordings for other messages.

Anyway, good luck.

Good hunting,

Yeah, I know thanks. Haven't tried it yet as I'm chewing up another convoy at the moment.

September, 1941. Another convoy I hit three times over the night. Four ships sunk.

Escorts aren't any danger.

Default Basic.cfg

Back to SH3 Comander. Yes, it has the ability to change the number of days in the database of your choice (28 for example). But then it loads 22 which it finds in Date/19390801/data/Cfg/Basic.cfg

Thanks Anvar. So, it does this without me telling it to ? I.e., I haven't changed a thing in Commander.

Or does it only do it if one adds the necessary files for it to do so ?

Got a chance to look at Commander's files. Sure enough, it randomizes the "AI Detection" value I mention above.

Going to delete that option from the Randomized Events.cfg. I'd like it to stay what the mod maker has it originally set at.

Commander has been randomly lowering this value, which makes already easy to deal with escorts even easier.

Got the edited message working guys, thanks again. I put the new file in both the game, and in SH3 Commander.

Not sure which did it for sure, but since I've tried it in the game before and it didn't work I'm betting SH3 Commander.
