Ok. I need final confirmation on this before I buy.....

IL-2 1946. Will it work on my Windows 98? The original IL-2 runs fine. Do i have to worry about sysreqs? Amazon has 2 different 1946s. Theres IL-2 1946 (old version) and IL-2 1946. Idk what the difference is. Does it make a difference? My 98 rig is the only one i have that will play flight sims correctly. My laptop is incompatible with the flight stick i have. I have probably asked these above questions before, but, im putting this on my "to-order" list very soon.

No, I do not believe that it will. It may be worth a try, particularly since it's cheap, but considering it was developed long after all support for Win 98 had ceased (and 7 years after the original IL-2), I would not hold my breath.

Maybe,

Some people do run it on Win98 some have problems and some people the game runs fine out of the box but after updating it it stopped working.

So there's no guarantee it'll work for you.

The difference I believe in the 2 versions you're referring to is that the OLD version is the 1946 that requires that you already own all the previous games of the series while the NEW version is a ALL-IN-ONE installation so all the games on 1 DVD.

The game is very cheap so there's little lost if it doesn't work untill you've got a stick that is compatible with the laptop.

Ok. I was planning on ordering 1946 because it had Pacific Fighters and the other stuff would be a bonus. I think im just going to try PF by itself. That works on 98 right? I dont want to drop the money for a new flight stick. My laptop isnt real worthy of a flight stick.

Well,
if PF should work so should IL2: 1946 since PF is the latest release of the IL2 series iirc.

Win98 is listen under the 1946 system requirements so in fact as long you meet the other requirements too the game should work.

Well. Thanks. I'll try out 1946. Adding it to my list "to-order"

I grew up on flight sims, graduated to naval sims, and now coming back to flight sims. I found a random copy of the first IL-2. I love it. I hear that 1946 is the best. I'll be the judge of that.
