Default Big Brother is now very real in London, England

Well at least Steed is safe there are no known images of Steed (that you can trust) of Steed on this forum

London police begin using live facial recognition tech across the capital
Meanwhile, Europe wants to ban the technology for up to five years

https://www.engadget.com/2020/01/24/...ublic-streets/

Quote:
London's Metropolitan Police Service has begun using live facial recognition (LFR) technology. At key areas throughout the city, signposted cameras
will scan the faces of passing people, alerting officers to potential matches with wanted criminals. According to the Met,
"this will help tackle serious crime, including serious violence, gun and knife crime, child sexual exploitation and help protect the vulnerable".

Thank god this can never be abused by police, secret service, government or any rogue hacker [/sarcasm]
Europe can ban that for five years or whatever period they say, it will come nonetheless. What can be done, will be done, everywhere.
George Orwell's "Big Brother" was a bloody amateur, and in reality total control will not necessarilay be abused by a left dictatorship.

Sometimes i think the american take on guns has its advantages

https://www.essex.ac.uk/news/2019/07...trial-concerns

Like with banning cahs money onbly to fight tax fraud and counterfeit money, face reocngition only is used for fighting cirme and findign suspects.

Naive is who believes this opportunistic, one-sided, heavily biased propaganda. All these options made possible by the unfoldiug of computer technolgoy and establishing digital networks, have turned out her ein germany to intiially oscciasonaly getting abused, then getting abused in exploding case numbers, then turned into beign the norm. Especially database requests between state fofices and services of all kinds, who should - in theory - not have the ruight or ability to reqeust data form an othe rbureau'S database by routine. So far, always thew worst case xenaio ahs turened to become the norm.

It will not be different here. And do not be folled. Data deletion does not exist. Anonymizing of personal data can relatively easily worked around: which means in the end that anonymous data sets do not exist. Poltics will allow private bsuienss to access this data for [enter some politician-bastards stupid rhetoric propaganda phrase].

Every state has it in its genes, no matter its constitution and system: it constantly seeks to increase its power, control and surveillance of all and everything, it always wants to pushed these further and further, there is no limit to it possible. In this the Us is dnot different form China, Britioan is not different from the GDR and North Korea is not different form germany. Every state has one attractor it moves towards, only the speed varies from state to state. This attractor is contorl, totalitarian control, totaliatrian subjugation of the individual.

The worst enemies to the state are its own citizens, are free, independent, informed, freedom-loving citizens wantign to be respinsuiboe for themselves instead of having the state claiming responsibility or them. And every state treats his citizens accordingly.

The worst enemy of citizens is the state, for a reason I do not understand most people simply ignore this.

All these things , all of them seem to always turn into tools by which people allow to get lead into "unfreedom".

As far as data deletion is concerned All sensitive data should be encrypted and the ability to do so made more accessible and simple to use . Permissions for keys need to be validated first so there is some form of accountability.

I hope our constitution here in the USA {4th} would stop this from happening.

Read Snowden's book and be scared of how far they have left your precious constitution behind already.

In Europe and practically everywhere as wlel they have or want to make orivate encyption illegal. the use of VPNs also should be prohibited.

The NSA records and stores EVERYTHING. Bush'S malicous nargument was that this doe sniot reprresent a violation of laws porevcenting the reaidng of private data, since the data is only kept for all time to come, and a viollaiton of privacy only takes place when the data gets scanned and analyssed automatically. which all the tiem happens. Thats why Snowden'S book was entitled "PERMANENT record". Today we have the tehcnolgoy to maitnain pratcialyl unlimited data storage capacity, and thanbks to automatizatio nall thsi can be done without neeidng millions of spies overhearing your private conversations.

Can the book even be bought in the US? Lats time I heared about it, the government tried to prohibit the selling of it in the US, arguing they do ot want Snowden to generate an income from it. The sales prohibition probably does not get through, but they want or already do confiscate all profits generated from it. They do not want people to read what he says - that is the real reason behind it.

Your govenrment has already sold your constitution and legal protections away, and betrays you from A to Z. Wake up, Armistead. You are living in a long forgotten historic past telling the narration of an ideal and morally superior American utopia. Its a lie.

The tragedy is that many of you US citizens are not aware of the history of Snowden'S family and their proud service generations of them has provided to your country. Edward took high risks and accpeted enormous perosnal sacrifices to serve you once again. And you see him as and treat him like a mean traitor driven by low motives. Nothing could be further from the truth.

You owe to him. But you treat him like a traitor. Because he spoiled your self-assuring dreams about how well it all is in your world. It isn't.

We can resist, if necessary. 200,000 farmers and ranchers in Texas, armed to the teeth. They may take us but it won't be easy.

They already have you sacked. You pay them. You do what they want you to do. Day in and day out.

Voting results come and go. The players in the shadows always stay. They want to distract you. You play their game. Day in and day out.

This is not Bonanza, Mr. Cartwright. This is Machiavelli's game. This is the post-William Gibson era. The future you stand guard against, already is your history. You have fallen out of time.

That's the problem with encryption, generally: the more secure the system, the more difficult it is for the average person to use. I used to use PGP, but no one else I know was using it - or even knew how to ... so there was no point in continuing.

One simple solution - outlaw face coverings other than Burquas.

HOLY SMOKES! They read my posts in Hong Kong! This AM's WSJ: Hong Kong Chief executive, Carrie Lam has chnged her mind (law aginst protesters wearing masks during demonstrations)...and appeared in public wearing a surgical mask, marking a shift in the government's policies on containing a deadly virus outbreak that has refocused protesters. Before the outbreak the government which had banned masks-widely used by prtesters. On Tuesday, Mrs. Lam and other top Hong Kong officials showed up in masks...protesters are demanding alll mainland visitors be barred from Hong Kong. Mrs Lam has instigated a partial shutdown of rail and air traffic; mainland traffic including traffic from Hubei, the province at the outbreak's center, have dropped 91%

yes.. seems the chinese leadership is not quite able to either contain this corona infection and otherwise convince its people not to wear masks to evade face recognition. As far as i know those face masks are of no use anyway.

Otherwise although one would think different, face recognition via hidden surveillance is much more effective and developed (read: intrusive) in London. I know it is only done with the best of intentions here.. but so easy to abuse.

"BBC News – Met Police roll out facial recognition across London":
https://bigbrotherwatch.org.uk/all-m...across-london/

The Metropolitan Police have announced they will be rolling out live facial recognition cameras across London,
despite serious concerns over its accuracy and privacy implication. The technology, which has no legal basis, has proven racial and gender bias.
