Default The biggest ocean liner…not anymore!

It was November of 1940. I had just started a new patrol yesterday with a Type VIIB.

On my 7th patrol of the war, I started off in October 1939.

This patrol was not a good one. I had sunk three escort ships and an ore carrier, which killed off my deck gun crew because I didn't realize it had a deck gun crew before the first shell it fired killed all three of the men manning my deck gun.

Not only that, but the three escorts came from a convoy I was trying to catch up to, but because there was too much resistance, I broke off the engagement and sped to safety.

Probably one of my worst patrols ever.

Just as I was about to give up this patrol, I get a report of a ship spotted, bearing 092. Speed, 24 knots. I looked on the map to see what it was. As luck had it, it was the Aquitania! I couldn't believe my eyes! It was early in the morning, 2 am or so. I quickly swung the U-boat around and positioned myself to fire off three torpedoes at it.

I set them with impact to run at 5 meters. They had no idea I was even there. At roughly 1600m, I fired off the three torpedoes. After the second one hit, it already said the ship was sinking.

A great end to what could've been a mediocre patrol. That ship saved me, as it ended up weighing close to 51,000 tons.

That's the only time I've seen that ship. I'm glad I was able to destroy it.

I bagged this one off of Capetown August 9, 1941 in CH93 while it was heading SE at 21kts. I fired 4 keel shots and got 3 hits sending her to the bottom in 11 minutes.

One RMS Queen Elizabeth for 87493 tons.
