My question now will be, why?

Seems they completely took the abilities of the TA away from its design!
The TA is NOT designed to be only useable at full extension to have it pickup contacts!
I stood enough COW to know that we used TA at different lengths depending on environment conditions etc.

Now you made the TA almost useless and NOT by design!

What's next, mach 1 mk.48 torpedoes?? Come on guys really!
You can use a towed array for 1/3 of the release as well.
You will hear loud contacts. But you will not be able to hear the quiet subs.
The sensitivity is linear - the farther the array microphone is from the submarine propeller, the more sensitive it is.

Yes you are right.

I tried it again last night with it streamed almost 1/2. That is about the min I think for it to be useful without full extension.

Of course environment contact noise distance still affects it all as well.

Glad to read you turned off "hysteria" button. In my opinion game now is more realistic and challenging. No more running with tactical speed with TA streamed to 1/4 of full lenght, no more ASW pretending whole in the water on litorial areas.

Im almost sure real submarine TA is designed to keep submarine depth on wide spectrum of speed. Its opposite to surfs TA, where placing antenna deep is crucial for most of situations.

Even with the stock game, I can't use the towed array in shallow water necessarily (like the Barents Sea), so that's not that strange.

@p7p8, I am not arguing TA sensitivity is dependent on antenna length. I actually fully support that. However, can you convince the Russian guy to increase the reeling speed for TAs on those American boats? Reeling speed of Russian TAs is so much faster. You can test it out on Akulas. I mean at least make them comparable.
