radar Aircraft Carrier Survival

Aircraft Carrier Survival was just released on Steam. It appears to have been made by the same people who gave us the excellent, "Uboat", which I love.

So I bought it as soon as I received the e-mail. In the videos, there are submarines. What that has to do with the player, I don't know. They may just be enemies after your carrier.

But, maybe they're part of the CBG. Controllable? I don't know yet. But I'll report back when I know more about this brand new title. Downloading now.

Seems to be a combination strategy game featuring a Carrier Battle Group and carrier management game.

It's built on the Unity engine. Graphics aren't bad, but not spectacular either. Just decent.

You can select your carrier's escorts, manage deck and ship operations with 3D cutaway view, and carry out missions including recon, identification, and strike missions. And you manage carrier defense.

I'm still working through the tutorials. It runs at 2560 x 1440 with everything set to, "Fantastic" on my modern Intel/nVidia machine.

The price is $17.99 and for that price, it should provide some entertainment if you want to basically be a Rear Admiral in charge of a carrier task force. But I wouldn't call it a hardcore simulation.

It leans toward arcade, with occasional aspirations toward simulation.

All-in-all, I'm glad that I bought it, especially for the price. It seems like good, inexpensive fun.

I'll post any further insights as I progress in game.

Saw their two 1 minute videos on the Steam page. Well, that looked VERY arcadish, I must admit...?!

Yeah, this is not a hardcore simulation. It's sort of a strategy and management game. But it's a pleasant diversion so far, as long as you're not looking for a, "Hardcore Mode" button.

I'll post anything else that I encounter, if anything of significance shows up. But right now, I'd say that if you like light strategy with a little ship management, and animated 3D ships thrown in, you might like this.

For the price, it is fun. But it's not "Warplan Pacific" or "Silent Hunter: Carrier Ops"

Couldn't be any worse than that disastrous game, Carrier Deck.

Haven't tried, "Carrier Deck". It has, "Very Positive" reviews on Steam, but that doesn't mean much. SH4 is one of my favorites, and they don't think much of it on Steam.

"Aircraft Carrier Survival" isn't bad once you get into it. But it's not a simulation, by any means. I'd call it a light strategy game. But it's kind of fun when you feel like relaxing and doing something easier than the normal fare around here.

The developers have already released two Hot Fixes and seem to be fairly responsive, so who knows? It might end up being a worthwhile, lighthearted lark.

I did a video review of it. Here it is:

It's like the old video arcade game, "Frogger", but on a Carrier Deck.

Carrier Deck is an excellent design, based around a simple but efficient gameplay loop. It is a love letter to naval aviation all around. It is not meant to be historical or represent a given era, it is first and foremost a challenge type of game which uses unconventional means to recreate the pressure of the job of an air boss. It is not meant to be realistic, yet it is oddly relatable.

Great game all around, at a bargain price in this day & age.

Cheers.

ACS looks like a lot of micromanagement inside the carrier judging from the trailer..

In my opinion, carrier ops simulations does not get better than Gary Grigsby's 1992 "Carrier Strike". For me it has just the right balance between strategy and flight deck operations, and it has fun and exciting gameplay. I would welcome a 2022 version that is true to the original.
