radar What sound setup do you use?

Good Evening everyone,

I was curious, what sound setup do you guys use when playing SHIII? ie: do you use headphones with your setup, or do you simply access sound straight through your speakers? The main reason I ask this is, earlier it seems my veteran headphones lost the left speaker, which is not ideal if you have a sound contact to your left, plus I often manually operate the hydrophones during patrols. This is not a huge issue as I do have a pretty decent pair of Logitech speakers and a Soundblaster sound card.
I am in the process of ordering a new pair of SONY MDR-ZX110NA headphones from Amazon as we speak, or in the next week or so.
Nothing comes close to actually wearing a pair of good BULKY headphones whilst sat at the hydrophone station, you can even tweak the volume to match the ambient conditions if needed.

Best Regards,

Paul.

I play with speakers and headphones.

Prefer the speakers myself, but it can at times cause issues with members of the family if it is to loud. Try to keep the study door closed when playing, as it cuts down the sound leaking out into the rest of the house. Complaints causes the headphones to go on.

I use the headphones when manning the Hydrophone station. They are old Sony set that is about 15 years old.

Good hunting,

Fubar,

Ironic, my headphones are around 15 years old too, they are a cracking pair of MDR-XD200s. I was actually in the middle of tracking a Danish cargo as I was passing through the Skagerrak and suddenly the left speaker went quiet. At first Initially I suspected Polish sabotage...

Cheers mate.

Headphones are the way to go. They give you an eerie surround sound. You can literally track the destroyers over you as they pass!

Default re sound set-up

I myself have decent Logitech speakers on both gamers. I have a Sound Blaster Z5.1 in one gamimg rig and a Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatality in the other. I start out with speakers but haf to change to headsets at some point because the sound of the engines and pinging seems to travel from the basement to our 2nd floor via the walls, keeping my lovely wife awake. The headsets I use are the Redragon H510 7.1 Surround Sound headsets. They are fantastic and inexpensive. My Sony MVR-V8's are good for my home theater but not for SHIII. I find myself cranking up the volume with the Sony's to ludicrous levels. My Redragon's ROCK for gaming and smoke the hydrophones. I can hear everything out there. Love'm

Hahahaha
Gotta laugh at that, folk around you wondering what all the racket is, like, are we being attacked?! Is it Russians flying over?! Some guy in here even made a custom red light for his bedroom for extra immersion. I'm personally thinking of hanging some rotten sausages from my ceiling rafters

You just have to use headphones whenever the sonarman decides to take a nap at his wheel.

Nice sound setup you have.

Hahaha, you even got a navigation table set up, just noticed it now. I do some plotting notes on my bedside cabinet top personally, but really need the red light.
