A damn good read.
My in-laws brought me "Poznat Sebya v Boiu" - "Discover Yourself in Battle", by Alexander Pokryshkin, it's in Russian but one interesting book. Throws quite a lot of light on the whole mentality of the Soviet VVS and the amount of hassle he had with party brown nosers.
If I find some good passages I'll translate them and post them here. |

Sounds interesting. I would think something by Pokryshkin would generate enough international interest to be translated, but after briefly looking around that doesn't appear to be the case. Really too bad.

I would have thought so too. It could become a project for me once I have read it and understand it. His writing is clear and purposeful, not literary like the great writers whoeven in English I got bored with.
Just got past the bit where he accidentally shot down an SU-2 and enjoying how he really thought a lot of his commanders were idiots. |
