Map contacts off

i'm quite new to this forum and like to receive some tips for playing the game with map contacts off, I think it's really difficult to keep track of enemy ships, aircraft etc but I would enjoy playing at 100 % realism.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome

As a hint you should read the stuff in the stickied "Sub Skipper's Bag [...]" thread. You will be told there what markings on the map become important on which kind of attack method.

I don't wanna rewrite everything here, but I can tell you that you don't need to draw too much. Like when approaching a convoy, you don't need to draw lines and points for every ship you want to attack, of course . Only one will be sufficient to estimate the convoy's course and speed. The rest can then follow by the use of an AoB-wheel for example.

I just wrote a thread some days ago concerning one attack run on a single freighter of mine. Maybe that's helpful to you, also.
Where was it again ? Ah ... here

Have fun, i.

Just don't do it. There is NOTHING 100% realistic about using map updates off. It is just more challenging just like......all together now......

Driving with a paper bag over your head!

Can't ... see ... everything so ... dark ... beneath ... this ...

damn bag !

And yes, 100% realism would be making a travel in time and sitting in a small old steel tube, fearing for your life.

I've used No Map Udates/contacts/course plotting for a lonnngggg time.

It's not that difficult, and after a short spell (1 patrols worth of missing everything), one begins to form the map picture in in your head. All other calculations come this way to, and soon your torps will be on target (minus the duds of course).

Anlagous to this, will be the difference between watching a story of TV, and reading the same story in a book. Reading a book 'turns your brain on' (no pun intended).
