I've always liked Magpies but earlier this month the wife and I witnessed them picking off the young of the Blue Tits which were nesting in three of our boxes.

I readily admit it is down to mother nature but the noise during the carnage was quite distressing so as of a few weeks ago the dog is let out into the rear property area whenever they are spotted at any of the feeding stations.

Oh yes you are

Beautiful paintings, i especially like the robin, or redchest? Would be a "Rotkehlchen" (~red throat, but with a "cutifying" ...chen in german). We often see them at the bird feeder, but most leave us in the winter (I also would ..)

^ The robin redbreast, different from the US robin which is a completely different species

In Victorian England postmen were nicknamed "Robins" because they wore a red tunic, and at Christmastime cards often depicted robins dressed in a blue postman's hat delivering the seasonal mail

Somebody commissioned me to paint a much larger version of something I did for a Christmas card years ago and thanks to him this will now be on a card once more

Oh man what a beautiful painting. Would love to do a cross stitch with that motive.

Eichhörnchen,

you should illustrate books with fairy tales. Somehow I think your style fits with these. Great artistry on display.

It would probably have been one that I photographed, but this was copied from a printed copy of my original so I can't be sure

@ Markus, fireftr and Skybird: thanks, guys... do kids still read fairytales?

They are indeed very nice, capturing the feel and moment

^ i take it that yes, some. There was recently a female tale-teller in some 19th century outfit and some requisites during a vintage car meeting in the vicinity, telling some of Grimm's fairy tales, and the children were hooked.
It was also the first time i saw a silk chicken (silky/fowl?), now i know where Mrs Rowling got the idea of a "hippogriff"..

Default 20X16" acrylic on panel

My (modified) copy of a Peder Mønsted painting, requested by a friend to give to her man for his birthday yesterday

She wanted the composition altered some and a squirrel added, together with the wood pigeons. I suggested the birds but the squirrel was her idea, believe it or not
