The song below was written by Warren Zevon shortly after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and was released on his final studio album two weeks before his death; he met his fate with quiet dignity and an admirable sense of humor; it was in any way a resignation to but an acknowledgment of what was to come;

Warren was a frequent guest on the David Letterman talk shows and was very good friends with both Dave and Paul Shaffer, Letterman's band leader; the clip below is his last appearance with Letterman, done after his terminal diagnosis; at the time, other TV shows were a bit reluctant to book Zevon since they were wary of dealing with the subject of terminal illness, but Letterman handled it with grace and compassion towards his longtime friend; one of the things Zevon said in the interview when asked about what a good life philosophy would was "Enjoy every sandwich":
