Default GWX Crashes To Desktop at mission start

Hi All,

I just downloaded and installed GWX 3.0 gold, and it works fine until I try to start a patrol. I get the load screen, then suddenly it crashes to desktop every single time....

Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you.

I wrote the installer for GWX 3
There was no Steam back in 2008 and I'd rather poke my eyes out then ever install a Steam Game.
Pony up the few bucks for a real version on DVD.
Heck! I may have a few more copies at home!

Let's put it this way then - where is your Steam games folder?

If you have Steam in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam \SteamApps \common \Silent Hunter III", then you will not get any mods to "take". They will all bomb and then the game most likely will not run. Windows is the culprit here, and it matters little if you have a Steam version, Amazon version, disk version or whatever. You cannot be in the "Program Files" directories because Windows "protects" them from the User and "unauthorized alteration" aka: modding.

Refer to "Moving a Steam Installation and Games" on the Steam Support Knowledgebase for info on how to move the game(s). The method you choose will depend upon your computer and on how adventurous you are. If you are on a laptop, and only have the "C:\" drive with the OS and data files, and a "D:\" drive for image backups (usually hidden), then life is more difficult and you have to move your game(s) by hand, as documented in that article. If you have a fast external drive and / or a 2nd internal hard drive or partition, you can create a 2nd Steam Library folder there and put the game in that new Library folder. Mods will apply and function correctly as soon as you move out of the "Program Files" folder.
