Default 688(i) Attack Sub Community

Years ago when I first started playing the game I was able to join a commuity that set up matches. We had ranks, rules and the works. We would join up on ICQ and have great matches against other fleets. Anyone know if this is still around?

that would be cool. Never knew something like that existed.

Were you stationed on the Iowa?

Default Sea Wolves

Gentleman,

I believe the Sea Wolves virtual navy is still around and they played what you are talking about. There are (were) others, check Subgroup or the links here on Sub Sim.

Thanks Ron, I'll do that. Ya Chopped, it was a pretty big online community. We had different fleets, rank structure, ROE and ICQ contact. It was a blast playing the game multiplayer, waiting for the cool down timer in order to fire off your fish and guide them toward the other players, giving contact updates to your team over TS. I made it all the way up to Lt. before EQ1 dragged me away. Yes, I was on the Iowa from pre-com 83-87. Reported aboard as a deckape in 5th Division (Boats), then as a QM3 in Nav Division.

EDIT: Yes!! Did a search for Seawolves Virtual navy and found it. Same kinda set up, new web page. Thanks for the suggestion Ron. Chopped the addy for the website follows:

Default Scenarios

For you who are playing the old but great simulation-688i- I have many custom scenarios that I collected and I will share them. I am not real good at forwarding stuff, mostly by attachment. I will be glad to give it a try if anyone is interested.

Default I have about 500 missions

Capt_quin,
There are sub v sub, surface craft, strike missions, mine laying, seal ops, rescue missions. This was the hottest sim at one time, and everyone was making missions for it. I don't know but I "believe" it was one of the first with a mission editor.
In fact you see a lot of the 688i missions have been recycled into SC and DW.
It was and is a great sim.

Seawolves isn't quite what it used to be back in its prime, but after all, the game is 10 years old now! Still one of the few places that you can go to get some quality 688 games in. Glad to see people still enjoy the game so much.

Default Janes 6881 SeaWolves VN

Hi,
I was one of the the opriginal Sewolves back in the early 90s, I started out as a SR and finished my tenure as a full ADM, I was known as *ADMTC, the
asterick stood for a Medal Of Honor winner killing multiple subs when engagaging with other Orginizations around the world. SeaWoves was quite the VN at its time, using Janes 688i Killer as its base platform, later in years we developed Tincans, Army, Air Force and Tank Corps all under the SeaWolves server umbrella. We had one member who was the server, and he held it for a very long time. I am sorry that his name and rank escape me now, it has been many years. I was the ADM who ran War College where every member had to attend it to achieve rank, it was straight out of Annapolis.

SeaWolves did not tolerate cheaters who could go behind the scenes and view the battle maps to locate enemy subs, they were quickly sought out and kicked out and banned forever.

Some members would meet at Mystic Conn to board the actual SeaWolf Sub moored there and visited the museums and spent the whole weekend together having fun visiting and going to dinner, meeting each other face to face rather then on a battle map or in a general meeting.

At one time, Seawolves VN had well over 2,000 active members around the world engaging in battles, helping the Orginization, teaching Boots sonars in the simulator which were very much the real thing. Learning passive and active torps in the water from Biologicals, real stuff!

It was a great time, until some members decided they could do better and tried to start an off shoot of SeaWolves called Wolrld Navy VN, didn't last long, SeaWolves blew them out of the water! Slowly but surelly new games came out and members moved on to play in those theaters.

I was in the US Navy for 8 years, 1957 - 59 Active 1960 to 1966 Reserves. I was a 2nd Class Pipe fitter aboard a WW 2 Tin Can DESRON 4, USS Furse DDR 882, hence my affection for being part of a VN. There will never be another like SeaWolves VN playing Janes 688i.

Former *ADM TC SeaWolves VN
