Default Do American defenses improve on the east coast?

December 27, 1041-March 2, 1942. Just finished a patrol off US East Coast(Mayport FL up to Charleston) and sank 8 ships(mostly tankers) and other than a PBY that strafed me and missed with bombs, no real counter attacks.Spotted several other planes but they did not see me.I understand this is opening of the war and US defenses were weak and basicaly ineffective, that is fine as it is historically accurate but do US vessels start moving in convoys eventually as per history? Do air patrols get tougher? Do encounter enemy destroyers and patrols? Surely, it's not a turkey shoot the entire war.Just curious...

Also, when do the supply subs(milk cows) begin operating off the US coast?

I am curious about the questions above as well, perhaps we should check the campaign files that would be definitive answer just need to figure out how to open/read those.

I found they do improve some.Aircraft become more aggressive and convoys are around.USCG subchasers are surprisingly accurate. Attacked a convoy in the Florida straits, sank three tankers but the USCG worked me over pretty well, forced me to go home after due to damage, even with 6 torpedos left. This is the first time DD's in OM have really worked me over.
