Support Calculating Speed

I watched two video's in the Tutorials Post.
The advanced convoy tatics and the noobs video.

They have different calculations for determining speed.

What is the best method?
Mark then wait 3 minutes and mark again. Distance divide by 100 is speed?
But in the advanced convoy video he uses 5 minutes. I dont know what the calculation is for 5 minutes.
Which one is best and what is the formula?

If you don't mind doing a little math you can calculate the speed from any amount of time. For every one knot you travel 0.56 yards per second. Now let's see how we can put that information to practical use. Let's say you don't have time to do the full 3 minute speed check. You decide to only use 1 minute (60 seconds), and the enemy ship traveled 500 yards in that minute. Here's how the math would work.

-Divide the distance (500 yards) by the number of seconds (60 seconds). That gives us the number of yards the ship traveled in one second, in this case 8.333 yards per second.

-Now you divide the yards per second (8.333) by the number of yards traveled for every one knot (0.56). That is 8.333 divided by 0.56 equals 14.88 knots. Now we know the enemy is going about 15 knots.

The whole equation would look like this, distance / time in seconds / knots per second = speed in knots, in our example, 500/60/0.56=14.88.

Short time intervals don't work great in the game because we can't measure the distances accurately, since we've only got 50 yard increments. If you don't have a lot of time to get the speed this method works well enough, and it's way better than guessing. Good luck out there.
