Default GWX with Hsie's patch (wolf packs)

Has anyone had these actually appear in a campaign ? I've done several campaigns with a lot of contact reports but nary a wolfpack response in the contact report reply.
Yep, it's installed correctly. Fairly common in NYGM, so I was thinking it would be the same in GWX with the patch.

Yeah, I get the correct radio message in the wolfpack test mission (haven't tried to see the actual ai subs show up in it), but in the campaign I have yet to attack anything but solo.

I have had GWX3 wolfpacks develop on several occasions but suspect that there may be a correlation between the accuracy of your initial course and speed estimates transmitted with the initial contact report and the appearance of the pack.

This is purely anecdotal (and the plural of anecdote is not data!) but those times when I have developed wolfpacks were when the convoy course and speed were very accurate right off the bat.

The thing is also probably date sensitive. By the time wolfpacks seemingly become the norm, in early 1942, you are generally forced to break contact because of radar equipped escorts or the intervention of aircraft.

I bet you're right, thanks. I know in his read me, there's info. similar to this.

My course/speed readings have been accurate. Packs just seem to be more frequent in NYGM under similar circumstances, but maybe not and I don't know why that would be so anyway.(I know it has some scripted into the campaign, but there's not that many).

On an unrelated note, does anyone know if darkwraith's ship fire damage mod in incorporated into GWX ?

I've had wolf packs show up with GWX 3.0. They are just infrequent, as they should be.

My guess as to how it works is that when you send the information, and the program decides a wolf pack attack is happening, it spawns a few special U-boats x distance away from your position based on the speed of the convoy in the direction you report.

The reason I suspect this is one time I got the order that a wolf pack was a go, and I was in heavy weather. The front end of my boat dipped under the waves and I got a one-off hydrophone contact that was a combat ship. It's residual direction line passed by quickly enough to indicate that it was close by. The attack started shortly thereafter.

This would also account for how the wolf pack could be a go, but not materialize, especially if the convoy changes direction after the U-boats spawn, but before they are in range.
