Default Modern Problems (more like a review)

I just got a new set of headphones to replace my old and trusty Sennheiser HD-206's. The Senn's are really nice and I was on my third pair (they only tend to live for 2-3 years before things start to wear out) but this time I thought I might as well try a different brand in the same (<$100) price range.

The new 'cans are Audio-technica M20x "monitor" head phones, no thumbs up yet- I just got them today, but they are certainly different.

Build- The A-T's feature a 10' cord like the old Senn's (the main reason I bought them in the first place) but the A-T's have a side-mount wire to one headphone. Not a big difference.
Where the Senn's featured all-plastic frames, the A-T's use plastic with a metal core spring. So far, so good. Its a good, tight fit. No complaints yet but I want to see if I'll feel the same way after 4 hours of gaming. The tighter fit of the A-T's also means that they muffle out a lot more background noise than the 206's. In other words, if you're cooking dinner in the microwave while you're stalking that convoy, don't plan on hearing the timer ding.

Sound quality- This is where the big difference comes in. Both headphones have good sound quality, but both get there in different ways. The A-T's are much louder compared to the Senn's. Like, I had the Senn's set up for a PC setting of 80-85% on volume where I have the A-T's set at 35% for a similar experience. Almost like the A-T's use a different impedance but I think its due more to how much background noise the A-T's block. The A-T's also focus on bass more so resetting volume levels may be in order.
