Default Confused as hell

Call me a noob all you want, but this game is rather stupid at times.
It'll send you on a patrol to the middle of nowhere, no where CLOSE to any shipping lanes, with barely enough fuel to make it back.
And even if I sit in the shipping lanes for a WEEK scanning with the hydrophone and sonar, nothing gets picked up

Ahoy, Halogen...

1 thing comes to mind...

How are you set up to play...??

By that, I mean, are you playing SH3 straight up virgin stock... or do you have it modded with any mods or mega mods... if you have it modded , take a moment, open up jsgme, which is strongly recommended to be being used when running mods... click on tasks in the center of it, then select the following: export activated mods list to

Then select in the sub-menu for that the following: clipboard

After doing that, you can then paste the jsgme mods activated list in your reply back.

Knowing that info, will go a long way to determining if a mod is causing your issues or not.

M. M.

Sounds like a lot of actual u-boat patrols. Sub simming isn't for everyone. If you want some action edit your contacts.cfg file found at path <game install>data\cfg.
2x, 3x, 4x, etc. the line "Display Range To Opportunity Radio Contacts".

if you use SH3 Commander, you can pick your own patrol grid square.

If we take subsimming Literally... Then yes, you will go to strange places, you will have weeks of no activity, you’ll be able to smell other peoples armpits, and in most cases won’t be any fun. That was what being on a U-boat was. SH series is not an arcade game, it’s a simulator. Good luck.

Rather not get into that level of simming...

Hi! fellow noob here that's just redownloading SH3 after way too long but here is some of what I remember.

One thing to note is that speed effects your maximum fuel range, so you need to take it slow on diesel engines if you have a long way to go. What I usually do is go to is dive during the day and surface during the night, both to conserve fuel and to avoid enemy detection. When I'm setting out from port I marked my patrol grid and plotted a course to get there, then had my navigator calculate max range at this speed, if by going at slowest speed I'd still use up 40% or so of my fuel just getting there one way, I assumed that high command was smoking crack and make my own mission from there to score tonnage, I remember having a wonderful time more than once harassing the hell out of little civilian ships with the deck gun for the lols.

There are going to be stretches' where you don't find nothing, that's the nature of being a hunter. But I promise the first time you get into a proper engagement, loosing torpedo's and dodging destroyers, you'll forget most of the boring wait.

If you get really bored go attack scapa flow, and find other ways to mess with the royal fleet.
