Default Request: Panini Projection instead of Linear

https://forum.unity.com/threads/rele...s-ssaa.483347/

Please consider this change. The difference it would make would be huge.

There is a 'cheat' in the game where if you turn your 'body' 70-80 degrees away from where the convoy is, but they are still invisible / out of visual range, you will see them clear enough, due to stretching / zooming, that you can even identify them.

Obviously it doesn't work at huge ranges, but with fog, or even just outside clear sky visual range, you can turn from seeing nothing, to seeing several ships.

This would also make the distortions inside the sub disappear.

According to several sites, this is a minor change within Unity and it fixes the issues for all screen sizes / dimensions and fields of view.

Please consider this change - at least let use try it please.

Thanks.

Noticed this as well. Did not care that much since this game is still EA, but yeah i would like that fixed rather sooner than later too, espacially if its an easy fix.

Will this be fixed? I was immediately turned off of the game when I realized it was much more effective to search with this edge screen bug than with binoculars. Also screws with your sense of relative vision and distance making it much harder to shadow contacts on surface while understanding true relative spotting ability.

This game is in ALPHA!

we’ve basically paid to be beta testers and find bugs, don’t be so hard on the devs or the game!

I’ve reported the bug using the official channels, and others are aware of it too.

Give it time and help find and report more.

Early access is not a finished game!

You can do the same thing in Silent Hunter 5.

Hence, this is a problem with modern games still using the old and outdated ‘linear projection’. Sure it’s simple, but it’s broken.

And things will only get better when they switch to better and yes unfortunately for them, more complicated projections or even using different projections depending on where the Ray is (like in this video).

The good thing is that unity has a one line command to ‘fix’ this, so I hope that will be investigated and approved.

It’s made worse now that we have widescreen and ultra widescreen monitors and higher fields of view, but linear projection has had its day - it needs to die.
