Default Dickey Betts of the Allman brothers passes away at 80

Guitarist Dicky Betts passed away yesterday at the age of 80. Dickey co founded the Allman brothers with brothersDuane and Gregg Allman, both of whom have passed away as well.

Quote: Betts joins his brothers, Duane Allman, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks and Gregg Allman, as well as ABB crew, members Twiggs Lyndon, Joe Dan Petty, Red Dog, Kim Payne and Mike Callahan in that old Winnebago in the sky touring the world taking their music to all who will listen," they added.

Dicky's Guitar playing in conjunction with that of Duane Allman provided a unique One-Two punch and gave the band it's high octane sound and helped to define the signature Southern Rock music sound. Betts played with the band from 1969 through 2000

Dicky, a Rock and Roll Hall of fame member wrote such hits as Jessica and Rambling man, Blue Sky,and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed as well as collaborating on so many more.

Rest in Peace Dicky and thanks for stopping by and giving us some great music.

Default

Wore out a couple of copies of 'Live At The Fillmore East' back in the seventies. Dickey was every bit as good as Duane, who once said of Betts, "I'm the famous one. He's the good one."

RIP Dickey.
