Thinking of picking up one of the Silent Hunter games, any suggestions?
Basically title. I picked up and played U-boat, but atm it seems, really easy (even with mods like manual TDC) and based of devBlogs will have less content. I watch wolfpack345, which is mostly Silent Hunter III game play. I see there are newer installments but based on the steam reviews it seems SH4 and SH5 don't want to run without some modification. SH3, based on steam reviews, doesn't seem to have that issue however. So I am conflicted on which installment of the game I should get. I perused the this sub to see if there was a fix, but at the time of posting the reddit search bar is down, so if there was a post about how to fix I couldn't find it. Thanks for yall's input! https://19216881.org/ https://1921681001.link/ https://19216801.digital/

IF you want to play Silent Hunter IV you must have Silent Hunter IV gold edition (gold edition includes U-boat expansion pack and 1.5 version of a game which MAJORITY of mods work with). Best option is to get the game through amazon download https://www.amazon.com/Silent-Hunter.../dp/B008X73CE8
Silent Hunter III is still a great game, a lot of mods to choose. I would recommend getting it |

I'd recommend Silent Hunter III with Grey Wolves 3.0 GOLD Edition Expansion. That is where I started years ago and have my best subsim memories. I remember it being realistic, challenging and rewarding.

SH 3 4 and 5 with mods are the three best U boat games out there, im currently running SH4 with the soviet waterway mod and SH5 with the TWO's mod both great game enhancers.

Silent Hunter 1 as SHCE. Silent Hunter Commander's Edition has all the patrol areas and the Scenario Editor.

Silent Hunter 4 is a good value, and not too hard to run on a modern OS. Operation Monsun and Fall of the Rising Sun are two great mods, though FoTRS is a bit brutal in terms of difficulty compared to the stock game (you can't really travel by daylight on the surface in many parts of the theater, aircraft will eat you for lunch).
Soviet Waterways mod is also excellent but you have to have a little knowledge of Cyrilic to not be overwhelmed, despite English translation of much of the mod. It's much like FoTRS in that aircraft can be quite lethal, especially in the Baltic theater. |
