Default CTD TMO

Twice now in Jan 1944 when escort launches depth charges, pause then CTD. One was a wakatake DD and other a minekaze DD. Pinging away when make their run, they launched and ctd. Any ideas?

in my TMO career, i am about 18 months behind you (mid-42).
been subjected to DC attacks in the Solomon Sea and no CTD.
trying to remember your mod-config and i believe that i am running a few less mods than you are.

Playing TMO I have this setup which I didn't play for very long but it shows no crashes so far:


1_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2-5
1.5_Optical Targeting Correction 031312 for TMO 2.5
1.5_OTC_Realistic Scopes for 16 to 9_TMO
Better Japanese Traffic map_from FOTRSU (custom)
Gramophone_DraftCharts_for_OTC_REALISTIC_SCOPES 16 to 9 (custom)
Navigation Training with all Submarines (custom)
Torpedo Training with all Submarines (custom)


Those marked 'custom' are changes from me, skip them in your setup.


You can also play TMO with a different campaign, RSRDC, you will play with the damage model and all features of TMO except the campaign will play differently, in this case you must set it up like this:

Believe I figured it out. I had my depth charge mod which was based on RSRD, not TMO alone. Will find out on next patrol.

Nice that you found the culprit. If you add mods out of the package, you should always observe the JSGME warnings when you activate that mod, if files of a previous mod in the list - or the main mod - get overwritten you would have to use a tool like WinMerge to see the differences, the more changes the less likely you will play without problems or actually 'destroying' what the previous mods in the list do.
TMO in its manual is warning that no other mods except RSRDC (or OTC which was made for it) should be loaded. Now, you can load other mods but then you must know exactly what you do. I did so, but I had to edit the files to keep compatibility, that can be very time-consuming - and even not always possible (Mod A changes X, Mod B changes X...You will have to decide which to use, you cannot use both).

Sure, but these 'custom' marked mods do liitle changes only, which I deem not worth to be published, with some exceptions maybe which correct errors. Here a brief description:

I've taken the UserRadio.dds file from FOTRSU because the map is better and shows more details for historical traffic and air coverage.

Draft chart instead of speed conversion chart. Here it was not that simple in only changing the dds file because of the OTC changes the cameras and the menu_1024_768.ini file, so I had to adapt that file to display the dds correctly.

You can do this yourself easily: You move the Navigation Training and Torpedo Training files from Q-School into the single misisons folder and adapt the names correctly to be displayed for all submarines in the in-game menu for single missions.

RALLE_1.3_Narwhal_Speed_Correction (custom)

This one is more important: If you play Ralles Modpack this will correct the wrong speed for the Narwhal class submarine. Tell me if you need that one, I can upload it, but it will only work in v.1.3 as long as the Ralles mod doesn't get updated. Maybe just refrain of using the Narwhal sub.

RSDC TMO Hollywood Missions_FOR RALLE 1.3 (custom)

This will re-introduce Hollywood Missions (photo and insertion missions) in the Ralles Modpack. RSRDC has taken them out, I have modified an existing mod to adapt it for the Ralles Modpack and take these missions in again, but for v.1.3 only, this one will become obsolete if Bleiente (author of Ralles modpack) updates his package, so not worth to be uploaded.

I am aware of conflicts. What happened is a few years back I created a depth charge mod for TMO RSRD to make the depth charges behave more in line with history, to stop the near constant "killing blows" and reflect that typically depth charges beat a sub up until its systems are overwhelmed or it fails. When I came back to SH 4 few weeks ago I downloaded this mod off subsim. Since RSRD does not want to function for whatever reason, just running TMO. I forget their file structure for depth charges is different. So when escorts would go to launch depth charges it would have an error and thus CTD. Since corrected this, no CTD when depth charges are launched.
