The Yankee Clipper-1939 off SF's Treasure island; the California Clipper in docking cradle off Treasure Island in the seaplane harbor at Treasure Isalnd c. 1940. I spent a year in that rat-infested huge hanger on the set of 2010's TV show TRAUMA The Hawaii Clipper in the dolly. She disappeared enroute from Guam to Manila: July 27, 1938 Rumours abounded, as they do when there’s no evidence to be found. It had been only a year since Amelia Earhart had disappeared in the same waters.

There is a theory that the Hawaii Clipper disappearance was the result of a hijacking-A popular theory with the media was that Japanese agents had slipped into the Clipper’s baggage compartment on Guam. The theory goes that they took control of the aircraft mid-flight and hijacked it to Truk Atoll by radical officers of the Imperial Japanese Navy where her fifteen crew members and passengers were murdered, then entombed within a slab of wet concrete on Dublon Island at Truk Atoll, and the American government continues to keep this secret from the Japanese government and the American people.
