@Kratos & Oberon

Thanks.

@rest
Well I see a little problem in this because some of us can't talk....
I think for such coordinated flying both the leader and the wingman have to be able to communicate quickly. i doubt that hte keyboardusers will have a lot of time to type...

I usually look out of the right hand side of the cockpit and judge the angle of the edge of the runway. Funnily enough, I can't take off without using the cockpit

What Oberon said. Also, locking your tailwheel helps to keep the plane going straight.

What I did before I got my TIR, was that I put the field of view to the farthest (PgDown), helps to see the edges of the runway better.

I want to. Only obstacle is time. Most of you guys are in Europe and I'm in the farthest timezone from you in the continental US. When you guys are flying I'm either at work or doing errands it seems.

I made a little video in which I'm taking off, landing and taxiing with cockpit view locked.
When you watch it for the first time, make sure you switch the manual view control off, so that you can only see what I saw when flying this.
Take-Off,Landing,Taxiing

Just place the file into your Il-2 Sturmovik1946/records directory.

Description:
Switch to the view in which you have the best all round vision (page down [as Dowly already wrote]). Now you can see the edges of the runway and can stay in the middle of it (I know I moved pretty far to the right during take-off but this wasn't too bad because I had already reached takeoff speed and rather pulled gently off the ground than starting some wild correction maneuvers).

After take-off I turned around and flew parallel to the runway. When the end of it almost vanished behind my seat I turned in, set flaps and gear and brought her down.
After the landing you will notice that I rolled in s-patterns to see what is in front of my. Make sure you don't get too fast here since the 109 loves it to tilt to one side or even to nose over (as I almost had close to the end of the taxiing section).

One final tip, if you don't have a track IR and have to use your coolie-hat than you should get a program called NewView (that's what I'm using in the video). It emulates a track IR that can be controlled using the collie-hat (much more precise than the original Il2 view control).

Man... The DCG program rules. I just really wish that the AI would stop flying in circles over and over and over and over and over and over and over during escort missions.

Thats what the AI does, it turns circle so they keep up with the bombers they escort.

Well done, mate!

Forgot to suggest this last night, but Huntsie, maybe you could pick a map for our dogfights and take 4 squares (sectors, what the fock you call 'em) when and put chimneys or something to mark the border. It's retard's job to try and find anyone with icons & externals off in a map the size of the DF maps.

On the other news, I'm not 100% sure if I can make it tonight. I came from work 2hrs ago and I've already drank pretty much ½ of my stuff (a bottle of JD & 6pack of beer), buuut I try to be sober enough to atleast get to the air before crashing.
