Default Campaign RND file question

I've was looking at some various versions of this file, and notice some escorts have a spawnprobability of less than 100%.

Why would this be done ? I would think all the escorts would be wanted to spawn for the convoy.

Or am I not understanding what this function does ?

Earlier in the war, escorts were hard to come by due to limited availability and competition for usage elsewhere. Placing values such as that at less than 100% helps determine how many appear when spawning. Convoys / units in the campaign files can be updated/replaced at will, with variables such as that, changing over time... and hold hands with other things in the big bowl of spaghetti. (variables like that, and crew skill level, etc) As before though, I can really only talk about what we did within GWX. We also set convoys & singles to have randomized zigzag patterns, with randomized travel leg lengths.... so the same convoy pattern would never be exactly the same no matter how many times it travels across the SH3 world. Same spawn point and same end point, just variations on the zigzag getting there. (Don't ask me how we did the zigzag stuff though, our campaign wizards in GWX figured it out and demonstrated it to me in a briefing.... but I've forgotten the 'how it is done' part LOL.)

Ah, thanks for the reasoning behind it. I'm aware of that historical problem, great it can be used in the game.

So if I understand it correctly, a 100% would mean said escort (or whatever) would always spawn ?

Yes. (But it is SH3 we are talking about, so I won't promise.)

While I'm at it, as often as I blame SH3 for many things (and rightfully so, if I am honest.) I hate doing it given the things I know now. You see, I count Dan Dimitrescu as a friend. I've been thinking about him a lot these days. Dan is an awesome AWESOME guy, and I wish I could share a few beers with him again. The thing about modern game development is this: You can have all the millions you ask for to carry out development... and even more later if you ask. You can go wherever you need and consult with anyone you want.... but you may not have a SINGLE DAY MORE for development. If you need more time, you sleep at your desk without a change of clothes for three days. You may skip time with families and holidays. You may work seven days a week for months.... but you may not have a single day more. Sorry for the rant. I just hope that people remember on occasion, how lucky we are to have SH3. Warts and all.

Ok, thanks ! I think I'll set all those escorts to 100% so they always appear and try it out. Might be a good simple way to make the game more challenging for me; instead of messing with sensor settings just have more escorts to begin with.

Good info about game development.
