Default [REL] Webster's Improved US Torpedo for v1.4 and v1.5

Webster's Improved US Torpedo for v1.4 and v1.5
===============================================
===============================================

This mod will boost the hit power of all american torpedos for the stock v1.5 game.

This mod works for both v1.4 and v1.5 of the game, if any conflicts show up with other mods then just install this mod last and overwrite any files.

I made 3 versions for you to choose from. i took each torpedo and then boosted its hit power to a set percentage increase over stock.

all torpedos still have unique individual differences that make them result in different damage levels but overall as a group they were increased an equal percentage amount in each version.

You have three versions to choose from:

"Webster's Improved US Torpedo v1" - (25% increased power)

"Webster's Improved US Torpedo v2" - (35% increased power)

"Webster's Improved US Torpedo v3" - (50% increased power)

================================================== ================

NOTE: i have also included a JSGME ready "US Torpedo Test Mission" that will install a single mission torpedo test mission so you can use it to try out the different torpedo versions on stationary targets of almost all of the enemy ships. this way you will see exactly how the torps act on each class of ship and how many it takes to sink them.

Do NOT save or modify the test mission or it will have issues, i had to manually change some cfg dates to make all the ships appear together at the same time.

if you just want to know what the new torpedos can do, then look at the list below for the average number of torps i found you needed to sink stationary warships. the test was done with the stock game and no other mods installed and i was using the auto targeting lock in a balao class sub loaded with only mark 14 torpedos.

NOTE - sinking rates will change if you place your hits at key points by manually targetting ships but i used auto targetting.

Install info:

As with all my mods, this mod is jsgme ready and it includes a read me file. Open the downloaded zip file and then open the mod folder.

Inside the read me will tell you about the mod and the folder next to it is the actual mod itself. that is the folder you need to put into jsgme.

if the mod has more than one version then just choose the one you wish to use or the one that was made for your game version.

enjoy!

Is this confirmed OK to use with TMO 1.7 current version?

I've had several smaller craft, trawlers in particular, fail to sink with solid single hits that should have caused fatal damage.

Is the 1.25x Ok to add to TMO 1.7 without conflict?

I have an older torpedo mod also, but it's from the intial release days, so I'm hesitant to try it.

Thank you Webster.

well if you hit it square on the bow or stern most of the damage isnt recieved by the ship.

its part of the reason that i made the mod, i was hitting DD's head on to the keel and they get no damage at all from a direct head on hit with stock torpedo so you need to hit the side to score damage. by increasing the power of the torpedo a little, when you hit right on the bow keel then the damage "reaches" farther back into the bow to the parts of the ship that can be damaged. usually anything farward of the front deck gun is like a dead zone with no damage zone to register any damage.

my older mod should still work fine but it wasnt evenly done because i did it quickly and i made all torpedos have the same power but its not like that in the new version.

in the newer version the torpedos are each raised an even percentage based on each torpedos original power levels so they keep their individuality and differences.

i thought that the older mod also had a little too much power increase so i scaled things back some so its not as much of a cheat as it is a way to get past some of those damage "dead zones" as it were.

stern shots are often hitting into the rudders and propellers and on many ships these dont get any damaged or can be destroyed so it gets frustrating sometimes but if your head on you will usually score a kill but with a direct stern shot its 50/50 so i try to get some kind of an angle to get to the sides of the ship. if the props hit the sides of your torpedo they dont go off so you dont know what reason you missed when you didnt really miss at all but the prop chopped or deflected your torpedo.

smaller ships should never give you any trouble sinking so i think a mod you are using has made them tougher and to counter that you should use a stronger version torpedo mod. instead of the 25% i have the 35% but in your case i would go to the 50% version.

im thinking of updating the mod with a new 75% and 100% version because many people still prefer my older mod since they like the one shot one kill you get on small to medium merchant ships in most cases

adding my mod last on top of TMO is fine because it only effects torpedos and wont otherwise change TMO in any way.

Thank you Webster

I will try it then, as you suggested. I try to keep it real, but still playable. No fancy end shots, just solid square hits near the beam, a la Dick O'Kane. Even a Mk IV should have caused catastrophic damage on an 850 tonner hit beam on.

The last trawler I hit this way burned and put out smoke, slowed a bit, but kept going. No indication of sinking. I was short of torpedos, so I risked coming up and finished her with a dozen rounds from the deck gun.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

another thing to consider is if you hit the right spot where a support beam is at like the seams between compartments then it is heavy reinforced area so damage could be light where a foot or two to either side would cause sinking so this can cause less damage then you expect but i only see this happen rarely and only in large merchants and not smaller ships.

i really think you have some mod interfering with your damage levels because even with plain stock torpedos, you should have no trouble sinking trawlers, gunboats, and subchasers every time with just one torpedo hit no matter how or where you hit them.

Not cool. Half the mods I want from you aren't even on your filefront (mainly this one) and subsim has the ridiculousness limit on downloads. How disappointing.

filefront/gamefront keeps deleting files uploaded more then 6 months ago.

they are the reason my mods are not there to download, they keep deleting them to save room on their severs for new uploads.

you will just have to get your 10 downloads per day like everyone else or if you make a donation to help with the expenses of running this site you get less restrictions on downloads based on how much you donate.
