Default French Armoured Cruisers fire point-blank

Just a little scenario I cooked up. Four German Battlecruisers (Two Derfflingers, a Moltke and a Seydlitz) against three Orion class dreadnoughts, ten battlecruisers and eight French armoured cruisers, in 1916.

There's no doubt in my mind, the German ships are way overpowered. Although the four German BCs were at the beginning only up against the three Orions and the eight French armoured cruisers (distance only 4000 yards), they had the Orions for breakfast. Every single one of them sunk. While this was happening, the German BCs were under torpedo and gun attack by 12 Royal Navy light cruisers at close range, and numerous French torpedo boats and destroyers, before its own escorts (six light cruisers and about 20 destroyers) could follow it into the fight.

Although my ten battlecruisers were spread out (four were closer to the action and after about ten minutes of action between the German BCs and Orions, they came out of the mist and started firing at range of about 8,000 years, 15 minutes later another 3 battlecruisers arrived and started firing.

All throughout this, those crazy French armoured cruisers were literally following the German BCs point blank range and shooting them up, losing only two of their eight.

At the point of save, where only two German BCs are still afloat and they are heavily listing with out of control fires, I lost three Orions and two BCs. I would have thought three Orion dreadnoughts should have been able to hold their own for a while against four battlecruisers. Were the German battlecruisers really that good? They were really basically just battleships that were fast? Also, in Jutland, the Germans reload their 28cm guns in 20 seconds, compared to 30 seconds for British 12, 13.5 and 15 inch guns.

Anyway, here's a rather enjoyable picture of a French armoured cruiser chasing and firing on a German battlecruiser at point-blank range, like some deranged dog nipping at its heels and won't let go while the German BCs continue to focus on firing back against British battlecruisers.

The pro-German bias of the game has to be fixed, it takes a lot of the fun out of it. Grrr. Are you listening Kroger?

Then again, I did have an interesting scenario I created where the Repulse attacked a German battleline of three Nassaus and five pre-dreads, it stayed out of their gun range while firing off its 15-inches. It got ten hits on one of the Deutschland-class pre-dreads before switching over to the Nassau on which it got five hits before it ran out of ammunition (15 hits out of 600 shells fired at absolute maximum 20-22km range... sounds about right).

The Repulse did its job in slowing down the battle line for the big boys to arrive, but I thought the pre-dread Hessen was just moderately damaged, some flooding, fires and a bit of engine trouble, and then the bloody thing keels over and capsizes! Well done Repulse!

Anyway, here's the crazy French with their ACs
