Any ideas as to why it doesn't work? Would really love to do a campaign with this and FotRSU if it's possible, if not I'll stick to just running it without FotRSU. Thanks in advance, captains.
That's because you can't run this with FotRS, not even with Operation Monsun... Best advice, run those with just flat out stock SH4, make sure to use MultiSH4 to have a separate game save folder for it... ensure you go into the SH4.exe 'properties' & make sure read only is unchecked on the main page for 'properties' & set it to run as Admin, save that & close out 'properties'.

Also, ensure you use either 4GB RAM patch or Large Address Aware, to have 4 GB of RAM assigned to it...

Hope this helps...

Also, ensure you have it NOT installed, in either:

C:\Program files

or

C:\Program files (x86)

would be helpful to know your SH4 source.. & are you running a single drive in your computer or a 2 HD set up... or 1 drive with external hard drives... that info is helpful to know...

Precisely. If you want to attempt to run a Japanese campaign now, try Cybermat47's Japanese Career. The download link is on his page, and it does require the use of keltos01's Jyunsen B mod (that link is also on Cybermat47's page). Note that Cybermat47 notes it should function in FOTRS, but that is NOT FotRSU. The issue with FotRSU comes with the ship "calls", in that we use different ClassNames and ShipType designations than any other mod, or Stock. Because of that, use of anything other than "certified" FotRSU mods can and usually does result in CTDs. I really wouldn't trust any other mod with Cybermat's, since he wrote it for Stock, and most mods change at least one ship, with the Conte Verde the biggest "offender"...

I have started on a Japanese speech pack mod for this mod. Should be done in 30 days or so.

Some cut and paste with existing files in the texture folder can handle the faces.

There's only 1 way to fix the eyes and NOT cause issues with animations.
It's just a theory mind you but it has fixed issues in the past.
(Based on my messing around)

That is to do a lot of adjusting in Hex of the 3D models.

That involves exporting the head models, Identify the verts around the eyes,
adjust those in a 3D program, then track down those verts in the MARINE.dat
and adjust them.

Easy Peezy!

Of course I have Scripts for 010 that allows me to identify the needed model so I can extract that information to a seperate file to work on.
Once adjusted? Another Script puts it all back.

And people STILL believe Hex Experts are not needed for modding.

I guys

I've started the work on IJN 3D crew. There's two way to make IJN uniforms for SH4, each of them is not perfect, but can make the change at the end with a bit of work.

We can use the German 3D crew or the US one. The problem is to find a good way to reproduce the famous cut of the Japan uniform, that is really different from US and German ones, using the 3D base of the game that I can't change
(The Jeff-Groves way is really interesting, thanks for the track, but it's definitely beyond my skill in 3D and programming.. )

The German is interesting for the coat for exemple that go just before the knees and that could reproduce the Japan long shirt worn other the pant, but there's still the problem of the straight collar.. The version shirtless with tank top is also interesting for sub units, but there's the short, that is not used by Japan navy for what I know. Most of the problem is for the hat, no famous Japan cap, the German one doesn't have the good design to try to make a fake and the side cap is not used in Japan Navy.

The US one have no long coat that could make the famous officer shirt, just shirt in occidental style tucked into the pants which is not the IJN style. But the cap and navy hat are pretty good to make some fake of Japan cap (navy one) and navy hat for winter version. It's also a good 3D set to make the white working jumpsuit used in the Japan subs.

I will test the two versions, make a set on German 3D base and one on US one. I've tried without success to shuffle the two crews. I'm not sure that you can use German accessories on US crew and vice versa

That's for sure the hard part of the work.. I' don't have the Jeff-Groves skill to update the 3D base of the head, but I've used what I know the best, texture skill and optical illusion. Working on color skin of course, on the eyes textures and adding a sort of "4O's Japan mustache style" on the faces

So here the WIP on the US base. I followed the model that you could see in the first pict (top left pict). White working jumpsuit with cap and black shoes. White shirt for officers.

Stay tuned
