Default Can Harpoons damage a surfaced sub?

I was playing the single mission where you are to sink an Oscar that is escorted by another sub. I managed to hit it with a Mk 48, but it only damaged it. It blew emergency tanks and surfaced.
As it was quite a range away (I was busy fending off its torps and those of its escort - I hate the SS-N-16) so I launched a Harpoon. It struck something, presumably the Oscar as it was in the vicinity, but didn't sink it. I hit it with another Harpoon, but no sinking either.
I've managed to sink an Oscar before with two Mk 48s, so I'm wondering if this is a bug, feature, or something I'm not aware of.
Thanks.

Icon1 ill look in to it

ill look in to it 4 u

far as i know surfaced subs can be hit yes with anti ship missiles but depending on how much they surfaced by

will affect the missile AI as in if its surfaced enough to be classed as a surface contact

the same apply,s to when a surface ship will target a sub with guns

Or like when a subs on the surface a wake homing torpedo will track it ect

i rarely actually play cw much these days bar firing it up for testing stuff for DotMod or my own mods and stuff not actually playing the game ect

Not at home or id test it for u

ILL post a reply on hear when ive checked

Well, it would definitely scratch the paint, and perhaps dent/compromise the integrity of the hull... I'm sure that it would blow the hell out of the sail area, but in terms of breaching the pressure hull on deep diving Soviet submarines.... not so sure.

I'll wait for someone with actual data mining to comment on if the programmers decided to make some magic.

Default I've certainly finished off damaged subs with anti-ship missiles

...but it's finicky, lots of misses, they often fly too low and plow into the water or ice particularly if target is near an ice shelf.

Try setting your missiles to pitch up and dive onto their target, seems to help.

Last night I was messing around with that 'sink the Nimitz' mission, and I screwed up and fully surfaced, I was a little less than 2km right behind the Nimitz, I was trying to get high to launch anti-sub torps at it to dumbfire proxy-explode under it (which works, but you gotta be SH4 accurate). All of a sudden every dang escort on the map launched missiles at me, cause of the dumb surfacing I did. I dove back down, and 2-3 minutes later, the Nimitz sunk. So, I dont know if harpoons targeted at a sub sill destroy the sub But I do know that harpoons targeted at a sub will sink the Nimitz.

Default Done it

Hi, I casually came across this post today. I was playing the same mission last week. I managed to blow the escort sub first, then hit the Oscar with one torp but it wouldn't sink, instead it surfaced. Out of laziness I decided to send a (sea skimming) harpoon instead of another torp. It hit in the stern section of the Oscar and it sank immediately after.
