Map Grid Questions: Star and grid are not in sync.

Missions direct you patrol around a specific grid. However, on the map, their is a star which presumably represents the patrol area and the grid. And the star and the specified patrol grid do not match (i.e. they are not in sync.) What is going on? Do we patrol the area around the star or the area around the grid? I wonder why they are not in sync.?

I don't know why they don't line up, but the star is the one you want, at least in OM.
