Default Why is GWX so good?

Hello,

I'm happy to admit up front that I'm a novice at the sub sim hobby. I don't calculate anything when targeting or hunting - I let the computer handle it all for me etc etc. A complete novice.

I've played both the vanilla SH3 and GWX and I've noticed that when playing GWX I can find NOTHING to shoot at. So I'm wondering, why is the GWX mod so popular? I admit, it's a bit boring for me. I must be missing something.

I thought I'd post a question like this to get feedback from everyone on what I'm missing.

Thanks!

Hi jdrumsr a Warm Welcome to Subsim re GWX when playing the Campaign and searching for Convoys or Ships operate the hydrophones yourself you can pick up convoys 38kms away instead of the sonar guy only picking contacts up 8-12kms away also dive to periscope depth every 2-3 hours of game clock time.
Conserve as much fuel as possible 7knts (is deemed best for distance traveled and fuel used)on surface when heading for your patol grid.
Once in your grid set speed to 2knts on surface and at periscope depth dont just stay in your grid for 24hrs patrol that grid for 7-10 days or longer trust me the convoys are there you just gota find them.
theres no better feeling when you do a sonar sweep and you pick a single contact of high pitched screws of and escort then another and then the dull drone of merchants then when you look at the tactical map you have lots of contact lines also when you press ,. keys to the right of the M key you can flick through the convoy ships in gods eye mode.

Happy Hunting Sir Salute

If you don't have the GWX 16k environment mod installed, you're using the 8k environment.
You can miss visual contacts that way. Also, look at the pull down map in the upper left corner of the navigation screen.
Note the areas marked on it showing convoy concentrations. Go to those and you'll have plenty of action.

But if you're expecting a fps type experience, you're going to be disappointed anyway.
That isn't what the subject being portrayed is about.

If all else fails and you still experience difficulty the mod below will help you get acquainted with the game.

In your mod list, you didn't exclude any GWX Campaign files mod-options, right? As that is a common mistake people do. They load up the Black Sea campaign or Indian Ocean campaign because more is better and wonder why nothing is there in parts of the Atlantic. Well it's because with that campaign area it has other areas cleared to reduce system load. The Merged campaign has it all, and is intended to transit between spawning bases around the world.

If you did enable any of the campaign mod-option then it might also help to know where you are/ from which port you left.

By this Modlist you have answered this above question yourself.

By this Modlist you no longer use GWX. You use a heavy modified GWX. This is not the same.
As you have shown, GWX is good as a base. Everyone, excluding jimbuna which seems to be the last hardcore pure GWX user (look into the picture-thread), uses GWX as a base for lots of other Mods.

Greetings.

M.E.P. v6 changes the atmosphere to 20k, so you don't need GWX 16k atmosphere.
