I'm thinking Calendar, but I'm usually wrong at guessing games.

Another significant Dreadnought:

Gentlemen, you know your stuff

Allow me to leave you with another teaser :
Quote:
"One of the benefits of an interest in WWII is the ability to speak, meet, and/or correspond with people who participated in the events and shaped them, each in his own small way, into what we read about today. One of the men I had the pleasure of meeting on many occasions was Admiral Erich Topp."

and.....

Quote:
"No discussion of submarine silencing would be complete without reference to the parallel development of the powerful BQQ-2 sonar system consisting of a low-frequency passive array(BQR-7) and a bow-mounted, 15-foot-diameter passive-active spherical array(BQS-6). The prototype of this system was installed in the USS TULLIBEE (SSN 597), the first nuclear submarine specifically designed to be the quietest submarine that could be built within the state of the art at that time(1958-1960). The idea first tried on TULLIBEE was to make the bow region as quiet as possible by moving the noisy bow planes to the sail and the torpedo tubes to a midships location below the control room."

Sadly, Admiral Topp is no longer with us....

Born: 2-Jul-1914
Birthplace: Hanover, Germany
Died: 26-Dec-2005
Location of death: Hanover, Germany

Vale to a brave warrior!

Certainly must have been fascinating to meet people who had survived the war after being involved in significant combat. Those such as Adm Topp and 'Silent Otto' could have provided a wealth of information.

I always found it poignant to see Adm Topp talking of those times and people who no doubt perished. He seemed comfortable doing so, no doubt having made peace with the past to whatever extent he could (not at all suggesting he had anything of which to be ashamed, more that it must have been hard to think of friends and colleagues who died, and reflecting on the many lives his own actions must have cost through sinking ships).

I'm working furiously to get this out. It will be a book, an honest-to-gosh print edition to commemorate Subsim's 10th anniversary and the great community. As you've guessed, it will have stories from the Subsim story contest, articles from a good cross section of sub game developers, historians, novelists, Navy men, specialists, notable artists and more.

Soon you can have Subsim on your bookshelf.
